Tho observer' correspondent has time und again tried to get some re liable s nopals of the evidence being produced, but In vain. Kven now It It Inip'oHlble to get- at the truth of the evidence, but from the most re liable source I can find, the evidence la In part ns follows: On Krlday nljcht. July 13th. about 9:.10 o'clock, I'eacock clotted his store and left. A negro. Hill Holt, who lives three mile in the country and who 1 said to bo reliable, snys ha saw them preparing to b-uvu town, but was waiting for a clerk to come down town to give him something out of a store that had closed. While sitting In front of this store he saw Peacock and Jones puss, going In the direction of Jones' home. Waiting preliably IS minutes, he started on home on his mule. At the NeUNn river bridge he pussed the siirne (Diiplo walking slowly arm-ln-urm. When ho had proceeded two or three hundred yards he heard a pMol yhot and heard the bullet fall In the rood near him. Within a minute or two, two young negroe ,.,,. running up the road behind '''m a,ng one of the pair hnd ahot at them and they recognized thetwo as Jones and Peacock. Before they had pr ceeded far they heard two other shots near where, the first ono was h -aid. They did not go back to Investigate. The next morning at 6 o'clock the dead body of Jones was found on llik'liliuul bridge, with n hole through his head, the ball having entered the buck und come out through his face. The snot where the body was found was not more than 200 yards from 4 where Iho negroes .claim they passed lh couple. It Is said that two re liable parties saw Peacock returning to town at a rupld gult a few minutes after the shots were honrd. PEACOCK'S WDK OF STORY. Ther ore rumors of other link In the chain of circumstances,, hut they are too vague to be quoted, peacock's contention is that it Is either a case of mistaken identity or : bold i.ttenipt by the negroe to placs llm responsibility on some one elsj to shield them. Peacock says he lid k-.i Jones In front of his atorj shortly after o'clock In a half litiiik.ti condition, talking to some ti. kio. s i bout buying a house und lot. at tin- same time displaying a loll of bills. He duos not know w lu re Jones went from there, nor I wlih whom he left, but for himself j lo- rinsed his store at 9.30 o'clock iati.1 wnl directly home. Home, months ago Major George F. Kutslei, of Piedmont Park, obtained from the Miracle Pressed Ptone .Com pany, of Minneapolis, Minn., the ex clusive right to manufacture and sell the Miracle patent of hollow concrete blocks In Mecklenburg county. The mould) for the making of these blocks, together with the other equip ment of a plant, were secured and operations were begun. Major Huts ler now has on exhibition at his home a number of these, which are seem ingly as near perfect as any building material that can be had. The "Miracle" differs from many of the other kinds of concrete block mnking machines In that the blocks have a double row of staggered air chambers, thus greatly strengthening tho walls and proventlng the. pas sage of any moisture within. The prncena of manufacture I an Inter esting one. The blocks, while they may be made in nny shape or slae, are usually 8x 12x24 Inches. Three men can easily mould 120 of theeffl In a day. After they are made, they are put beneath a covered shed, out of the wind and sun, and kept there wet for from seven to ten days, After the blocks have set they are put our In the sun and are allowed to stay there for from IS to 10 days, after which time they are said to be reatly for building purposes. Those blocks, so made, will not crack. The longer they are exposed the harder and stronger Ihey become. There Is llttlo doubt but that 'con crete blocks are to be one of the . .... m M m k - j'" "" Product of the future Already they are coming : Into wide to a certiiln extent,' In the South.
