Taylor died at hla home on Spring street at 11:11 to-day at tba aga of year. The deceased waa truly one of Wlnaton-Salem'a best and noblest cltlMRa. He was a Christian , gentleman, one who waa honored by all who knew htm, Mr. Taylor waa a native of Danbury, Stoke county, be ing a eon of the late capt 8. B. Tay Jor, for years one of the leading dt laena of Siokea county. Mr. Taylor came to Winston more than twenty . yeara ago. For a time he . waa en gaged In the mercantile business. Ha ' waa also postal clerk during Presi dent Cleveland first administration, ; hla run being between thla city and lrenaboro. For several yeara he haa bt. a "Knight of the grip.". Ha , wa a successful salesman. He aold dry goods for Capt. J. E. Ollmer, later Olios" Brothers, and whoa tha firm of Marler-Dalton-Oilmer Company '. waa organised he ecame associated Itwhb that firm, being elected a dl reetor of the well-known and whole , sale dry goods concern. He contin ued "on the road." Five weeke ago he waa compelled to give up work on account of a carbuncle which devel oped on the back of hla neck. Aahevllle, Aug. 11. Newa haa been received here of the death of ei-tfudge . Oeorge U. Jones, which occurred at : Franklin, Macon county, thla week. Death was the result of atroke of . paralyaia sustained by Judge Jonea some time ago and from which he never recovered. Judge Jones waa at -one time on the bench of the Superi or Court of North Carolina. He also served the fifteenth Judicial district aa solicitor. Ha waa an able lawyer and a polished gentleman, numbering hla friends In western North Carolina and other portion of the Bute by ., the hundreds. Surviving are a wid ow and several children. Mr. W. Law rence, a well-known cltlaen of Balls bury, died at hla home on North Bha- vvr street last night about 7 o'clock. . His death waa due to typhoid fever, with which he had been afflicted for - three weeks. He leavea a wife and five children. Mr. Lawrence came here from Davidson county and waa a aplendld type of the modest cltlaen . who Worked hard for hla living. He lately took work with the Haltabury- 'rlpenoer Stroet Hallway Company and waa liked by ths company. Airy Presbyterian church, was the orator of the day and delivered an aamirapie address suited to tne occasion. w chapter of orphans from Oxford were present and eang for tne eoincation of the crowd. They gava two con certs while here, one at Jonesviue Monday night and at Elkln last night. Crowded housee arreeted them on both occasions. The Elkln Cornet Band added much 1o the occasion by the fine music hlch they dlecoeyaed during the day. Taken as a whole. the. picnic was a great success and will be repeated again next year.
