Power Company, 'of Charlotte. Of this magnificent totil, 4,500 horse-power will be furnished early, next year. The remainder will be delivered as needed. In addition to this, the Odell Man ufacturing Company, of Concord, has contracted with the same company tor i'.buo or electrical horse-power, a handsome contract In Itself. By January 1st, l07, tha officials or the Southern Power Company expect to place with the smaller manufactur ing enterprise of Concord an ddl tlonal 1,000 horse-power. The tak ings of the mills In Concord will then approximate 1,000 of electrical horse power. It I next to Impossible to estimate with any degree of accuracy the amount of capital required to pur ch.ase this vast amount of hydro- electricity. The outlay will figure figure between 1125.000 and $160,000 yearly. The coat to the Cannon Mills alone of the 6,000 horse-power will range from 175,000 and 1100,000 an' nually. The Southern Power Company I a corporation chartered under the law of the State of New- Jersey with an authorised capital of $7,500,000. It owns th water-rights for 110 mile along the ( atawba river and controls every power sit of consequence. There are eight of these In pled mont Carolina, of which one, that near kock Hill, B. C. is In operation, productlng 10,000 of electrical horse power dally, and another, at Oreat Falls, 8. C, Is In course of develop ment. The Oreat Falls station will furnish 40.000 horse-cower when finished. It will be In operation shortly after the first of the year. The Southern Power Company owns one power on the Broad river, that known aa the Ninety-Nine Island. When developed U will also produce 10,000 of electrical horse-no wer. Th total development of the Southern Power Company will figure some where in the neighborhood of 150, 000 of electrical horse-power. The officer are: Dr. W. Oil Wy lle, president; Mr. B. N. Duke, vie president ; Mr. W. 8. Lee, Jr.. second vice president and chief engineer; Mr. R. B. Arrington, secretary and treasurer; Mr. W. H. Martin, Jr.. as alatant secretary and treasurer, and Mr. V. A. Leland, resident engineer. The directors are; Messrs. J. B. Duke, Dr. W. Oil Wylle, B. N. Duke, It. H. Wylle, J. Parker. Julius Chris tensen, W. H. Lee, Jr., R. B. Arrington and F. L. Fuller. , Th development at Great Falls I now unJor way. The power generate ed ther will be transmitted u th Catawba station near Kock Hill. S. C. ami. from that point will be dis tributed to Charlotte. Oastonla and other manufacturing centers, Th power line now run north of Char lotto to the Highland Park Mill. Th new contracts will require that this transmission line be' extended from Its present terminus to Concord, a dlatance of it or 18 miles. Woik will "have to be commenced on this line very shortly. Steel tower wlJJ be used In Ita construction, every ewtlon of which will be of the very lateat design. The cost of this tran mlaalon line alone will approximate $10,000 per mll. v Concord Is one of the moat thriv ing manufacturing centers In pied mont Carolina.
