There-were addresses of welcome by Governor Vardaman, Judge Hardy, tna mayor and tha president of the Mississippi Division, Mrs. Bell.- These were reaponaea to oy sirs, vaugna, Znd vice president of tha North Caro Una Division. The report of the president general, Mrs. Lixxle George Hender son, was printed In pampftlet lorm and contained all Che dec talons of her office during the past year, with re commendation for the consideration of the convention. Mrs. Henderson presided with dignity and ability, showing thorougn knowledge of1 par liamentary law. The various parts or her report wero referred to commit tees. Sne ured Divisions to arouse Interest In erecting monuments on the great battle field parks of Gettys burg. Ohfckamauga, Vlcksburg and Shiloh. In March, Mrs. Henderson received a ' letter from Hon. John Sharp WllHams n the United States House of Representatives enclosing a letter from tha Secretary of war glv Ing permission for tbe United Daughters of tha Confederacy to erect a monument at Arlington to rno con- erates burled there. Hh wrote thank' Ing the Secretary of War for the let ter, and said ahe would use her In flaenco to have the United Daughters of the Confederacy Snow our appre ciation of thla mark of respect to our Illustrious dsad. Shown by ths North this year, by uniting in an effort to draw the two sections closer together than they ever have been. She hoped the United Daugntera of the- Confed eracy would make an appropriation for fhls Arlington monument. Tho United Stetes government had al ready marked these 214 graves with hesdstones besrlng the names and command with "Confererate States Army" on each. "Shall we be less ap preciative of their bravery, than those rhoae who were once their enemies? Colonel Herbert In his plea for tola Confederate monument at Lee's old home Arlington, told of the lot of i acres where rest our deed, with a vacsnt mound in the centre on which Is to stsnd this grand monu ment to Confederates from every State burled so far from home. The United Daughters of the Confederacy from Its general treasury pledgod 1S00.60 a year to the Arlington mon ument till Its completion. The recording secretary's report showed thst the United Dsughters of ttie Confederacy since Its organisation had Issued 1,071 charters for Chap ters 102 of which were Issued this yesr. The treasurera report showed total receipts of 16,826.92; and a total expenditure of $4, 17. 28. The United Duughters of tho Confederacy from Its treasury gave $300.00 to the mon ument of Hhlloh; 160.00 to Wlrts monument at Andersonvlile, Georgia; 160.00 to a monument to General Beauregard: 160.00 to a monument to General Morgan. The United Daughters of the Confederacy will place a handsome memorial window In the "Church of the Itedeemer" at lilloxl, to Mrs. Jefferson Davis, a counterpsrt of thoae erected there by Mrs. Davla to President Dsvls and Miss Winnie. On the second day of the conven tion, the memorial services were sol emn and Impressive. Beautiful reso lutions ot reaped wrrs presented as a tribute to the memory of Mrs. Da vis, and others, who nad died since our last meeting. The report of the Davla monument committee was most Interesting us Ita work waa about done. In that the monument would be complete and ready to unveil June Ird. 107.
