Wednesday af ternoon It was discovered that there were several cases of smallpox at tho Loray Mill and steps were at once taken to quarantine those afflicted and all suspects In tho city pest house north of Happy Hill, the use of which was promptly tendered the county superintendent of health by the city council. Among those confined In the. pest house, who are afflicted with this disease, are Mrs. S. T. I'lace, an 18-months-old child of Mrs. Rosa Hays and Miss Fannie Dennis, who lived with the Place family. Fifteen suspects are now confined at the pest house and several others at the Loray are being taken Into custody to-day and pluced In con finement. Wednesday night Mr. Hcott Henry and daughter escaped front thr pest house and returned to the Loray. Yesterday they were nr rested anil returner! to the prv t hous" where they were trlerl before Esq.
