Miss Carrie Hosklns, of this city, completed her course as trained nurse at Bellevue Hospital in New York re cently. Miss Hosklns made the high est record of a class of 14. and was awarded a 110 pin. Miss Hosklns wrltee Uhat she will be at Inome in April and will probably locate here. NEW SUPERINTENDENT COMES. Mr. A M. Smith, the new superin tendent of the Winston division, Southern Railway, arrived In the rlty last night. He will take charge Fri day, February 1. Mr. Smith comes her from Columbia, 8. C, where he (naa been assistant superintendent of the Charleston division of the South ern. Mr. Smith prefers to retain Mr. Bennett' chief clerk and the en tire office force, if the same Is agree able to all parties concerned. Mr. Bennett, who has been ut his home in Greenville, H. C for some weeks, hae about recovered from the In juries sustained to 'ris leg at Spencer on Thanksgiving day. He is expect ed here to-morrow or Thursday to arrange for his transfer as superin tendent of the Durham division. Ideal Weather for the Races on Lake WorthFive Events. Run Off, in Which Cups Went to the Winners). J'alm Beach, Fla., Jan, With Ideal weather, beautiful Lake Worth dotted with boats crowded with spec tators and the shores before the Ho tel Royal : Ponclana thronged, the. third annual motor , boat regatta, un der the auspices of tho Palm Beach Power Boat Association, opened most auspiciously here to-day.. The fea ture of this regatta lies in the handi capping so rranged 'as to be abso lutely far to all contestants. To day's handicapping was done accord ing to the ratine; measurement of the American Power, Boat Associa tion. On succeeding days the handi caps will be based on load water line length and speed, insuring fair trial to every boat. The opening day of the regatta was marked by the run ning eft of five events, three for five miles, one lap around Lake Worth and two for 0 miles, requiring two laps. The first 5 mile event for boats rat ing "88" and below, was won by the Simplex IX, owned by H. Breeel. A second event for the same distance and for the same rating of boats was won by the same boat. The B-mlle event for boats rating "80" and above was won by the Gray Wolf, owned by H. L. AVilloughby, Jr., of Newport. ' The 10-mlle event for boats rating "80" and above was won by the Kstherlne, owned by J. Mlddleby, of Boston. The 10-mlle event for boats of all ratings was won by the Simplex IX again.
