On of the capitol Incident to-day wai a fight between Representatives Bryant, of Wilkes, and Representative Haynes, who disagreed about Mm personal matter not connected with legislation Bry ant got a blow in the face, but they were Quickly separated and no harm was done. The en counter occurred at one of the doore of the capitol on the lower floor. FREIGHT DEPOT FOR REIDS- VILLE. Plana for a freight depot at Relds ville, to coat $15,000, have been filed. The corporation commission last month ordered the Southern to erect a proper depot there. Charters have been granted to the Aden Axle Lubricating Company, of Greensboro, capital 26,000, to use a mechanical device, and to the Ashe Ule Star Vending Company to man ufacture vending machines. The National Guard Regulations Board completed Its work to-day. The regulations now almost precisely fol low thoae of the regular army, a few differences being necessary. Ev erything -Is being done to put the force on a regular army Daais. Governor Glenn Is much gratified at the news from Newbern that the pro hibitionists won In the light against the dispensary by a majority of 65. It now seem practically certain that there will be separate boards for the agricultural department and the Agricultural and Mechanical College, the latter being the only State Insti tution which has not a separate board of trustees. There will be co-operation between the boards, along certain lines, partic ularly In Institutes and extension work. At noon to-day the North Carolina Cotton Manufacturers' Association met here, R. M. Hlller presiding. Factories In all parts of the State are represented. ASK ABOLITION HOMESTEAD LAW Great pressure Is being brought up on the Legislature to abolish the homestead exemption law. Sentiment among the member seems to be di vided. Petitions are coming In from various counties, the Retail Mer chants' Association, having secured large numbers of these. Mr. Robert D. Johnson, of Ala bama, who has been here for a week working for the reformatory bill, went home to-day. There Is connld erable opposition, mainly among east ern members, but advocate of the measure are yet hopeful. Capt. Mack Williams, of the First Battery, Field Artillery, was here to day to see Adjutant General Robert son. This battery has received four new rifled guns and equipments and its three Oatllngs are to be distributed among the three infantry reirlments. Fred Woolcott, a merchant here, has gone to Columbia to Identify a convict In the penitentiary who I believed to be the burglary who rob bed Mr. Woolcott' nouse In Raleigh 8 yesrs ago. He acknowledged the crime, was convicted, sentenced for life and escaped. The executive committee of the Cot ton Manufacturers' Association ha decided upon the establishment of a fire Insurance commission and Is be fore the Legislature to press the mat ter. ' Captain Abbott, of the Mystic, fell in with the Nanna last Monday 20 miles southwest of Seal Island, In dis tress. She got a tow line aboard tlio Nanna and headed for Halifax Ort Cape Sable the cable parted, but the Mtic picked the Nanna up again. Early yesterday morning, oft CUe buctu Head in a gale, the line parted again, and while tha Mystic was uy lng once more to make fast to the Nanna, both steamers were driven in arntng the shoal. It was 'snowing haro. and the northeast gale was ter rlllc. To avoid striking both stjam ers let go their anchors. All day iong and all last night they remained tht-re. Finally the Mystic dragged hot anchors and struck, a hole being driven through her bottom forward Her forepeak was flooded, but the quickly worked off the shoal. According to a cablegram received - yesterday from Australia, "BUI" Squlrej. the champion heavyweight boxer of Aus tralia, will leave there on the steamur Ventura for this city, accompaniod by his backer. In the cablegram he challenges all the heavyweights In America and says he will post his forfeit upon arrival. The Ventura will arrive here about March 12.
