Mass-Meeting of Citizens at Jefferson Asks Ijeglslatore to Give Chance to Vote $100,000 to Build Road Into Ashe 8talo Should Olvo Equal Amount Special to The Observer. Jefferson Feb. 9. At a meeting of the representative citizens of the county held at Jefferson Wednesday It was decided to ask the county com- ml.isloners to have an election held for the purpose of submitting to the people a propoaitlon to vote $100,000 for the purpose of building a rail road into Ashe county.' Also our Representative In the General As sembly was Instructed to ask that the State Invest an equal amount. Speeches were -made by Messrs. Bowie and Council and our- people are heartily n favor of the prospect. An effort will be made to extend the turnpike, now nearly completed, from Wllkes boro to Jefferson, on to the Ten nessee State line, and It is hoped if the tax Is voted that either the South ern will extend Its road from Wllkes boro to Jefferson or that the Virginia & Southwestern will build from Moun tain City, Tenn. It was stated by Mr. Bowie that an agreement evidently existed between the roads near us not to enter the county and that un it we acted Independent of them all and helped ourselves, no relief would come. A road Is greatly needed and t Is hoped that tills plan will be successful and the roid be blult. To stop a Cold with "Preventlcs" 1j safer than tn let It run and cure It af terwards.
