An abrupt revlsal of a price movement such a that which occurred to-day, : Is characteristic of periods of un bridled speculation, whether for the advance or the decline. It a re marked yesterday that operations by the beam had taken on .the-proportions, of saturnalia. .: To-day'e realis ing sense of the position In which they place themselves by too heedless . sales of what they had yet to secure for delivery had the usual analogy with the experiences following: a pe riod of revels and other stimulation. The bear party made a further drive against the market with the begin ning of the dealings to-day and cen tered a particularly savage attack on the coppers. A further slump in the - markets both for copper and tin In London suggested a repetition of yes terday's success in breaking the prices of those stocks. In seeking to tae advantage of this opening break to secure the stocks they needed, It was disclosed to the bears that stocks offerings were In scantier supply than yesterday and that they were meeting in additional competition In buying. It was the feeling of the market, per ceptibly to the skilled sense of the professional trader, which was the decisive feature In turning prices up ward and started the rush to cover by the bears. The most potential fartor In the Improvement was the chtrk to the falling prices itself. Thr things fear ed and which were prompting the in Jiscrlmlnate selling of late were likely to be brought about by the very force of the fall In prices If no other caune. It was the undemand ing of the danger of thexe forces of action and reaction which might be set loose In the market that probab ly prompted the more uggrenslve measures of support which were un doubtedly extended to-day. The un disturbed condition of foreign mar kets to-day In spite of yesterday's wild market her was a surprise to the speculators for a further fall in prices. It was announced during the course of the stock exchange session that the Treasury Department had de termined to deposit $15,000,000 of the customs revenue In New York banks, as well as to prepay April In terests on the two per cents snd on the four per cents or 1 807. The to tal amount of Interest due In April on those Issues would amount to up wards of 17,000.000 At tho same time, reports received from Wash ington showed that the Treasury's offer to accept savings bank Invest ment bonds to nfcure deposits In the bank in substitution for government fours of 1907 which should be offer ed for redemption umlrr the Treas ,ur' proposal was having a decidedly stimulating effect on the offerings of these bonds for redemption. The extreme advanced reached to over 7 points In most of the Harri man and Hill stocks, to 6 or over In St. Paul. Canadian Pacific and Smelt ing, to 5 1-2 in Heading and Louis ville and Nashville and from 3 to over 4 points In a large number of Up most active stocks. The extreme gains were not all helil and the clos ing tone of the minu t was rather Ir regular. When in need of Stone, or brick, or lumber for a house it is good business to buy from the lowest responsible bidder, for the material itself enters into the permanent construction of the building; but it doesn't pay to buy coal that way, for coal itself is not what you want. A cer tain intangible something called power is what you are seeking, and power is not measured by the ton, nor has it dimensions like a block of stone. It depends upon Quality, and quality in the coal determines the cost as well as the quantity of the power. Because of its natural purity and uniform preparation ADMIRALTY COAL makes most power with least consumption. Hence the growing demand for it among southern mills and manufacturing plants.
