McNeill, f I'nrwt'it Omnly Special to The Observer. Dunn, July U-Dr. W. M. McNeill, the oldest physlcan of Harnett county, died Tuesday at his residence on the Cape Fear river at Dickenson. He has been a practitioner for 60 years and was use ful ana prominent , Copt. Peter McRae, of lfrlxwa Coun. 1. SpeclsJ to The Observer. Maxton, July M.-Capt Peter McRae, a well-to-do farmer of 73 years, died at his home, six miles south of Maxton. Thursday. The captain has been a resi dent of this section practically all ot his life and was one of tlfe oldest inhabi tants of this scetlon. Up to a year ago he was a very active man, and able to attend to business, but since that time his health has been on the wane. The Interment was at the family cemetery, near the old home place on Friday. Mr. Jacob Dove, of Cabarrus. Correspondence of The Observer. Concord, July 13. -Jacob Dove, aged 84 years, died at his home one mile south of the city this morning at 9 o'clock after an illnes lasting many months. He leaves a wife and several children. Among the children living there are Mrs. M. J. Dorl, Mrs. J. T. Pounds, Mrs. Harry Fyling and Mrs. Barnhardt and Mr. Tom Dove. Mr. Dove was married three times, He was one of the most prominent figures In this county, where he haa spent hla long life. He was a farmer and buslneas man, having interests in several 0 our mersantlle establish ments and served for a number of years a county commissioner. He leaves a largo estate, although he haa on several occasions divided his hold ings mong his children. The funeral will take place to-morrow morning at Centre Methodist church, of which he was a member, the service to be held at 11 o'clock. Mr. William Stevens, at Bryson city. Correspondent of The Observer. Awhevllle, July 12. News has been received here of the death at Bryaon City Wednesday morning of William Stevens, 'manager of the Bedford & Stevens Lumber Co. Mr. Stevens had been 111 with typhoid fever for ten days and the news of his death will come an a severe shock to his many friends in Auhevllle end other parts of western North Carolina. He came to this section of the StaAe from Cross Village, Mich., about four years ag-o to engage in tho lumber bimlnena. Prior to his coming to western North Carolina he had been a lumberman in hia natlov State and was prominent ly Identified with the trade. Ho was a man of large acquaintance and waa held In rcKpeot and high esteem hy all who knew him. Surviving are a widow and three daughters. The re mains were taken to Michigan to-day for Interment. Special to The Observer, Mooresvillo, July 14.- The Barium Springs Orphanage picnic will be held at Mooresvllle July 25th and the com mittees are now hard at work to make this the biggest picnic in the history of this great annnal event. People come here every year to attend theae picnics from all of the adjoining counties and many miles. Tho picnic are given for tho benefit of the, or phans at Barium Springs and while the orphanage is under the control of the Presbyterian chruch all denomi nations assist In aiding the annual pic nics at this place. Excursion train will be run from Statesvllle and Char lotte besides a cheap rate from all points is given. John Moore, the negro who shot and severely wounded Jim Carr, col ored, and two of hla daughters, Mon day Is still at large although the offi cers are still after him. It was an attempt to murder in cold blood as Moore wanted to marry one of Carr'a daughters and because he was refus ed he tried to kill the family.
