Bell Telephone People Will Enter Hlfch Point Wllth the North State Company vV Home For Xorthxlde Fir Bpartment to Be Erected Mr. George F. Wilson Leases Bis- ; roe FoundryOther Xews In Short Form. IHgh Point Xov. It Last night in the Manufacturers' Club rooms a number of the citizens met to h?5r what Mr. W. T. Gentry, vice pres ident of the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company, had to say about the telephone situation in High Point as regards his company. He said he wanted to take the people into his confidence and then proceed ed to tell the auJience about the Bel company, about Its financial af fairs, the dividends that have been pild, etc. He spoke of the dlsaJ : vantages of two companies In the city but . claimed that all efforts at 'com promise or agreements had failed and now the company had paid for a site and would come here in fact poles were alreaJy on the way for the line: that High Point should have the best long distance connections, etc., that the line would be InstalteJ anJ If the people of High Point did not patron ise It then his company would lose money. The proposed rates given are much higher than the present rates In fact Mr Gentry maJe the people aware that they were higher, lying that his company did not claim in rent telephones a cheaply as local concerns. It appears to be a fact that Mr. llayden. "of the North State Tele phone Company, who owns most of the stock of the company, ,Joes not Intend to enter Into anv agreement with the Boll people and also that High Point will have to be worried with a two-'phone system Instead of one, The North State company, or at leant the stockholders, believe that Mr. Hayden is taking the best step and that he will win out In the long run. So thl suggests a tight, as there are stockholders In the local concern who will lose every dollar they have Invested before they will agre to sell out and there are oth ers who would sell out. That is t'.ie , situation to-day. The remains of Mr. K. Z. Tay lor who died here yesterday were this toofning taken to Hookerton, for bur ial. Dr. W. G.
