When freedom came this man, then a young fellow, refused to accept the decree.. He had Jived his life so far with the 31ues and the Blue plantation was his home. He elected to stay at his home, and the fact that; no legal control -aver him remained was of no consequence. He could not see that his home had be come anything than what It always was, and to this day he remains, liv ing in tits little cabin, a lesson to those Who figure that the slave was an unhappy victim of the white man's hatred and cruelty. The old slave has Trussed the days of usefulness, but the sight of him around the place gives It suil an air of cheerful Interest.
