Passengers: irinr in Cheater Irom Columbia Jn the morning niiiat now spend a day and night there to catch the- train f,p Lenoir. And at Hickory the aame imntoni if the southern ia a Uw mlnutea late. The train arrive about two houra earlier than It did, nd the people fall to aeo tho reason lor the change. It there were several train on tha road they could con ceive of condition wnereby a change might be neceenary. But there 1 fcut one pawenger train a day and It M, by the new echedule, made to mla connection with all other eo that the dally paper reach Tre from one to hre day late. Three lwue of The Observer came yeterday. If the change la for the purpose of tielplng to create the proper eenti ment among the people, and especially the legialator who met at BAlelgh to day. It can be said that the people cf Lenoir have never tecn In favor of a 2 1-4 cent rate. They prefer that the Legislature do something to abol Jiih the detestable and abominable dis crimination In freight rate. Some Dt the freight trains have been dis continued, and rxw to take oft the passenger train between here and (Hickory. 1 spoken of. will imply kill the hen that laid the golden egg. Lenoir Is certainly the best patron of the road. In fact the business which this section has given, it ha been an Indispensable factor In Its de velopment and nucceaa. -And not only that, fcut when the railroad rate bill was pending 'before the last Legisla ture, the popular, conductor of the C A N. W. came to tne people of Le noir with a petition, asking the cltl sens to subscribe themselves as be,lng In favor of exempting that road from the 2 1-4 cent rate, and nearly every rlttzen approached signed the petition. Thin attitude of the people here Is In striking contrast with that of the road to them, Mrs. O. V. Henry, of Hutherford College, is vlaitln; her daughter. Airs. J, K. Shell. Mr. W. A. Shell re turned from Charlotte to-day, where he went to attend the poultry show. He Is especially interested in Ithode Island Keds. Th steallnr of 280 from Mr. W. M. AVelr, of this place, last Wednes day flight still remains a mystery. It seems that he had the moner undr lils pillow and the Intruders in order to get It administered chloroform. The authorities, so far. have no trace of the thief. The burning or the Mitchell Home Pchool last Tuesday nisht .entailed a Joss of about J3.000.
