Interview! with representative business men of this city Indicate that business condf tlons. In Greensboro are satisfactory, with no ill effects resulting front the recent panic. Money Is plentiful and easy,' as la demonstrated by the fact -that the banks are taking care of their customers as formerly. Several business men Interviewed y The Ob server correspondent said their Jan uary business was greater In volume than for the corresponding - month last year and others admitted that there bad been' no decrease In their lines. , ' For the past two or three weeks . the question of securing an auditori um for Greensboro has been the llvest and most interesting topic of conver sation among a large number of peo ple In this city. The matter was pre cipitated by a proposition looking to the purchase of. the Hippodrome Building at the Jamestown Exposition, which is said to be tho second largest auditorium building In the United states. , A number of Greensboro gen tlemen has bargained for the pur chase of the building, and, whether it tc removed to "Greensboro or not. It is practically certain that this city will oon have an auditorium capable of accommodating nny gathering that may assemble here-. The auditorram fund, made up of subscriptions by a largo number of public-spirited citi zens, now amounts to about $15,000. The action of the Legislature in tho settlement of the railway rate mat ter gives general satisfaction here, the consensus of opinion being that the law-makers have displayed . wis dom and given Justice to all concern ed. A great many people here were opposed to the special session, hold ing that the rate matter should be al lowed to take Its course through the courts. A leurned man of the law expressed the opinion that a derision by the United State Supremo Court covering the points In dispute, especi ally those relating to State's rights, ' would be worth all the troublo and worry incident to the agitation of the railroad rate matter. 1 MORE COURTS BADLY XEKDEP. Much regret Is expressed over the failure of the Legislature to create a Judicial district, of Guilford county, for the need of more courts In this county Is pressing; The proposed measure had the united and enthusi astic support of tho Guilford bar and doubtless would have been enacted In to law but for the fact that similar measures came up from several other eounties. congested Is the civil docket of the Superior Court of Guil ford that an action instituted at !io present time would have slU.lit cl.anvc of comlnj; uy for trial for iv,. years or more. Baw'iHll talk hes be.n revived here In earnest, and the local fans will be sorely disappointed It the proposed Carolina League should fall to mate rials. Mayor Brandt, C. O. Wright, J. F. Cobb and other-enthuMtasts say there will be no trouble about Greens : boro's going Into th league and htlcklng through the season. A man ager nj several good players are In sight and the money to Jiack the team Is available. The stockholders of the well-known end successful printing houso of Jo seph J.
