IS. The entries for the first Florida road run, Jack ronville to Miami, promises to be ouite large, and by the time of the start at Jacksonville, March Vth, it 1 expected that many more entries will be received by the Florida East Coast Automobile Association, whose vice president. George E. Hebring, recently went over the entire route with the pathfinding car in order to check the mileage and put up dlreo tlon signs, and also acquaint the county commissioners and citizens along the route of 371 miles with the had places in the road that will be fixed temporarily at least in time for ths run. t The pathfinding tour and the forth coming run has dona much to arouse an Interest on the part of the people ef the Florida east- coast in rood roads, and the commissioners of St. John's count. In which Ht. Augustine Is situated, have authorized and al fjady have put a gang of men to improve the road up to the Duval county line, and it is now up to the commissioners of the latter county, 5n which Jacksonville is situated, to repair their part of the road, which It Is said will le done. Among the entries received by the Florida representative, W. J. Morgan, at Bretton Hall. New York, the past few days is one from W. H. Jackson ville will send to the start quite a number of - cars, and James Iauth lin, the young Pittsburg pathtindlng millionaire, will be the tlrst one to start, as he will carry a load of con fetti with which to mark the way for the other cars. The Btullan car in the New York-to-rarls race passed through here at 4:50 o'clock this afternoon followed at 2 mlnute Intervals by the American and one French tar. The cars were stuck In the mud rjorth of here for several fliours, kelng four hours and 43 min utes coming from Auhurn. a distance of 16 miles. The Issue of $100,000 Improvement 6 per cent. bonda, 150,000 for water and $50,000 for sewerage, was sold to-day at par net by the city to', Emery An derson & Co., of Columbus, O It Is the purpose of the improvement committee to push the work of con ctructlon as rapiJly as possible. It may be reasonably supposed that ac tual operations will begin at an -early day, the preliminary work having; been practically completed. The sur vey was completed a few weeks ago by Gilbert C. White, city engineer of Durham. Two sources of water sup ply are under consideration deep wells and Haw river or 6 tony creek, which empties Itno Haw river two one-half miles north of ths city. Hogan Recovering, Special to The Observer. Durham, Feb. 15. The Blltmore Hotel, which was closed a short while ago for the third time, is to be re-opened In' a short while, prob ably about March 1st. It has been leased from the owner, A. J. Ellis, by E. H. Murray, of Spencer, and preparations are now being made to get everything in readiness for the opening. Mr. Murray will equip the hotel with all that is modern. in hotel business, so It Is ?ald. and the loca tion of tho property, less than a half block of the union station, is such as to make the hotel a very desira ble location. Dr. N. M. Johnson, surgeon for the Seaboard road 'n this city and section; Dr, A. Cheatham, assistant surgeon In tthia locality; Mrs. N. M. Johnson and two daughters, Misses Katie and Mary, and Mrs. A. Cheat ham left this afternoon for Raleigh and from there they will board the Florida Limited for Tampa, where the former two will attend a meet- ng of the surgeons .'of tho entire Seaboard system. Mrs. Johnson and wo daughtars will spend a few days t Miami and thn go on to Tampa. The meeting will be called to order on Monday and will bo in session for three days. News from J. T. Hogan, who lives Orange county, and who suffered stroke of paralysis several nights ago, Is that he Is getting along very Icely and that there Is now every ope for his final recovery. William H. Karrett, colored, was arrested here on a warrant from Wll- Bon. In which he is charged with dis posing of mortgaged property, but he was released by settling the .mat ter.
