Ten Teams of Bicyclist Start at Turk Square Coliseum, Boston, Feb. 17. Ten team, made up- of leading professional bicycle rider, started to-night In a six-day race at the Park Square Coliseum. The riding will occupy two and a half liours each evening except Saturday, when It will last from 2 p. m. until 10 p. m. Norttt Carolina, off the Virginia Capes, Saturday night, confirms the statement In the press dispatches that he averaged approx imately 2I.4J knots In her four-hour speed, trial. It say' that the trial was a very successful one, although made in a heavy sea. Although the speed made by the North Carolina Is the best ever made by an American armored cruiser, English-built vessels of the came class have made much better record, running up to 24 knot an hour, and one of them, the Duke of Edin burgh, it was estimated would make 27.75 knots. Admiral Clover, president of the board of Inspection and survey, and the . other members of the board which conducted tha trial, have re turned to Washington. The admiral says that the speed made by the ship i the best ever made by a vessel of the armored cruiser class in the United States navy. He attribute her good run to the fact that pick ed coal was .used, that the bearing were carefully adjusted and that more lead waa given to the steam valve of the high pressure cylinder. There waa a jail delivery In Hillsboro last night and when th.e sheriff went down tnis morning he found that four prison em, three white and one colored, had escaued. Later in the morning one of the escaped prisoners returned and told the story of how the escape was effected. Jt was late last-night when the escape wa made, so Franklin, the man who surrendered this morning, say. This was done by breaking efl the lock to tne ceil occupied by the prisoners and then digging a hole through the brick walL The lock waa broken with what is known as a "shack" what is worn about the foot of a prisoner to keep him from running while at work. State Attor ney General Jackson announced to day that he Intended to go Into the ' Ktate courts to seek the appointment of receivers for the Mutual Reserve Life Insurance Company, notwith standing the company la already un der a recelverahlp made in the Fed eral courts.
