Liverpool was a shade easier than expected and this combined with the ab sence of any reassuring trade advices. depressed the market. After the opening future ruled barely steady with the March option neglected and no great ac tivity shown in May or July. The no tice ordering a continuance of short time in the New England mill had been expected and did not affect the market to any great extent. There was a' moder ate improvement in the .speculative side of the market and this with good sup port from - room trader gradually brought the future back to better level before the close which was steady, with the active month ( to 7 point above the close yesterday.
