Sexton, Of This City, Who Passed Away Last San day, One of Milwaukee's Best Known Women A. Frequent Visi tors in Charlotte. ' The Observer last Monday morning contained a brief account of tne death of Mrs. Ellen C. Sexton, mother of Mr. James L. Sexton, of this city, which occurred Sunday af a Battle Creek, Mich., sanatorium. The fol lowing from a Milwaukee paper will be read with interest by many Char lotte people, for Mrs. Sexton ahd often visited in this city and. was Highly esteemed here: v "Mrs. Ellen C. Sexton, widow of James Lester Sexton, died Sunday at Battle Creek, Mich., where she had been taking sanitarium treatment for the past six weeks. She was (0 years of age. "Mrs. Soxton was a member of on of the oldest and best known fami lies of early Milwaukee. Born In this city in 1839, she had lived her all her days and had been since her girl hood an active factor In the social life of the city. Her father, Moses Knee- land, who died In the 70's, waa a prominent business man, and possess ed whHt was a large property for the early days. The boys of his family are long since dead. Of the three daughters, Frances, Who be came Mrs. J. G. Flint, Jr.. was the most masterful. She was exception ally clever and endowed with great financial ability. Her death by heart failure, which occurred a year or more ago, was brought n probably by close attendance upon her husband during his last sickness, in Mexico, where fflie was accompanied and as sisted by Mrs. Sexton, 'Llko her sister, Mrs. Flint Mrs. Sexton wan e-ducated. traveled and cultured. She was a member of the woman's Club, the Athenaeum, the College Knilowment Association and many other organizations devoted to patriotic, social or benevolent oblerts.
