The most charming L ftffalr of th season was the elaborate , breakfast given at noon yesterday by lira. M. E. Walters In honor of Miss ' Aait Penn, whose marriage to Mr. Kd ' win Forrest Kit son wlU take place on December 1st. Mrs. Walters' home Is Ideal and those who have partaken of her hos ' pttallty need no assurance that this funo tlon was perfect in every detail. The color scheme of the old tapestry papering in the spacious hall was artis tically ended out in the maroon and pink of gorgeous chrysanthemums against a background of palms and ferns. Tha parlor aecoraiiuns were pink and green, and blended beautifully with the wanner tones of red and green which ware seen through the open door of the library. Mrs. Walters received her guests with the charming ease and grace which so distinguishes her manner In her home, aad was assisted in this duty by her win some daughter, Mrs. Asarlah Walters of Louisiana. Hot chocolate was informal ly served In the library and the guests war at once ushered into the dining room. Here the decorations were profuse Id white and green, and the subtle charm of the arrangement of tulle and satin rib bon showed that an artist's eye had stud lad ovary detail. Tha centrepiece was aa exquisite vase filled with Japanese chrysanthemums and asparagus fern, while the eld English cut candlesticks dotted tha table and shed their light on tha rare opai out-glass, which reflected It In every tint of tha rainbow. Tha toasts to the gracious hostess and ber daughter were given by Mrs. Ilalr ston. who then called on each guest In turn to "leave within tha cup" some good wish for the fair bride-elect. Mrs. Wbitaett gave tha response In her own Inimitable styls, and was followed by Mrs. Walters who proposed that we drink to tha groom, tha "nearer one till, and dearer than all others" to the gueet of honor. After that the toasting was general. The lights were turned off while tha toasts were given, and only the soft gleam of the candles lighted the room, and made It a scene of mystical beauty. Green shades capped the silver can dle sticks and chandelier. At either end of the table waa a large cut glass vase filled with white chrysan themums. A delicate wine course was served, after which the ladles renewed the spirit of thJir young days and in pulling the ribbon projecting from the pumpkin which contained dainty lit tle favors for each guest. They par ticipated In a guessing contest of much interest and received beautiful hand painted cards with pencil at tached, to write their answers on. Erwln at her beautiful home, 'Hillcrest." in West Durham, Monday morning. No vember 25th, from 10:0 till 2. It would seem that nothing could add beauty to this home, nevertheless the palms and rare chrysanthemums in crystal vases added new luster to the scene. The guests were cordially re ceived by the hostess gowned in a lovely white silk and then Invited to partake of delicious punch which was served by Mrs. R. W. Winston and Mrs. E. K. Powe. The punch bowl was one of the prettiest ever seen in Durham. It was entwined with sml lax and from the top hung clusters of luscious grapes. The guests num bered seventy-five. The entertain ment consisting of euchre'and flinch. After a couple of hours spent in a round of marry games a candy turkey was presented to the one making the highest score at each table. The vis itor's prize was won In the exit by Mrs. .Mason, of Hagerstown, Md., and was a large candy "gobbler." A three-course luncheon was served, after which the guests departed for their homes. Glenn at the mansion Mcnday after noon and Tuesday. There was a large number of callers Monday af ternoon and evening and during Tues day afternoon. At 1:30 o'clock Tues day afternoon Mrs. Glenn entertained at a luncheon In honor of Mrs. Kltchln, the wives of the State officers and some other close friends of Mra Glenn being Invited.
