Mrs. Fannie English, one of High Point's pioneer cittsens' died - here this evening of consumption, aged S3 years.. She leaves a husband and four children. . (. John F. Graves, of Jamestown, aged 87, was burled at Deep River to-day. Rev. Abel O. Kirkman, regis ter of deeds of Ouilford county, con ducting the services. , He leaves a Wife and four children, was an ex emplary Christian and well known. 1 IT, Mrs. ,601110. Hendley, at Charleston. Special to The Observer. Cornelius. Dec. '14. Mrs. Bailie Hendley died on December 2d at tha liome of her ' son. H. H. Hendley, in Charleston, 8. C. Her remains were. buried beside those of her husband at Pleasant Hill church near Statesville. Flit was.- is her 78th year, and had been In good health until a few days before her death. Her death was caused by tetanus, or lockjaw. brought on by a slight wound on her Hand. . . county, and ' her ' maiden name was HalL , tier husband wa Thomas J. : iiendley. They spent 'the greater ' part of their lives near Dysortville, where they reared five sons. Three -.of their children died In infancy. Mr. Hendley died in 1888. Four of tha sons survive ameiy, li. Te tha Editor of The Observer: Graham, Dec. 11.- The funeral of Dr. Edgar Thompson, conducted by Rev. Dr. B. C. Murray, was held this afternoon from the residence of his brother, Mr. C. C Thompson, who lives . on North Main street. Dr. Thompson had been in 111 health for I some time and had been spending a vacation - with his brothers, C. C. Thompson and Dr. A. J. Thompson, in. Graham. He had practiced his profession of dentistry for a number f "years In Durham, where he Is aid to hate been very successful. From a com munication received in Spencer to-day from Prof. Walter Thompson, superin tendent of the Stonewall Jackson Manual Training and Industrial School, to be established by the State of North Carolina at Concord, a pro gramme is given for the first annual gathering known as the Laymen's Movement to be. held in connection with the district stewards' meeting at the First Methodist . church in Salisbury, beginning on tbe 16th Inst., covering two days. The programme follows: "The Purposa and Scops of the Movement." Rev. Dr. J. C. Rowe, pre siding elder of the Salisbury district. "The Plan of Organisation, and Election of leaders for Charges." "The Local Work of the Laymen s Movement," by Dr. T. A. JHalthcock. of Norwood. "Financial Plana on Circuits." General discussion. "Financial Plans on Stations. " Dr. W, C. Houston, of Concord, and Mr. RL. Smith, of Albemarle. "Christian Stewardship and Chris tian Giving," Mr. T. 11. Stiff, of Salis bury. "How Can the Laymen's Movement Help the Neglected Sectiona and the Missions?" by Mr. J. F. Sblno, of Norwood. It has been planned that all sub jects will be open for a general dis cussion by the delegates and others in attendance. The gathering, which has been wisely planned and worked up by Rev. Dr. J. C. Rowe, and others In the district, will be the first of the kind to be held in the Western North Carolina Conference and it Is ex pected that a number of visitors and leading church workers from all oharges in the district will be present.
