Special to The Observer. Ellxabeth City, Feb. 17. Elizabeth City's beautlul new Young Men'i Christian Association Building Is to be completed. This la the decision of a mass meeting of contributors held last night In the court house, when the proposition was thoroughly and frankly discussed. The building stands to-day only partly completed arid Is and haa been for some montha ' an eye-sore to the community. Many difficulties have been encountered In the movement, principal among which were the non-lntereat and. in some Instances the hostility of the wealthy element of the city, and the panicky conditions of last year. At the meeting held last night those Interested declared that, not withstanding the lack of wealth, the building must be completed and that it would have to be done with the united earnings of th working class. Many eloquent and enthualaatlc speeches of patriotism and en couragement were delivered, at the close of which cltiaen after citizen arose and pledged to double and, in many instances, triple the amount alreaitv pledged. Many stated that ithey were not able to give any lar-ge 1 amount, but would sacrifice edro things that were badly needed in their own buslneas and home rather than see the r!tiTuT bundling' stand uncompleted.
