R. aug mented Its numbers yesterday at a vary delightful meeting with he re cent, Mtss Laura Orr. by electing- three new members. Two additional names were posted for election at the April meeting. The meeting; yesterday was to have been with Mrs. E. I Bussey, but ow ing to tier Illness 41 lea Orr became hostess. A large representation of the membership waa present and the meeting was interesting throughout. The date of the silver tea proposed at the last meeting was fixed for April IS. the place, Mrs. W. A. Zweier's. The chapter voted a con tribution to the testimonial which the D. A. R. chapters at large are to give Mrs. Donald McLean upon her re tirement spoil m presldnt general of trie rational society. Miss Orr read a letter from the Elirabeth Maxwell Steele chapter, Salisbury, asking Charlotte chapter to endsree Mrs. Clark Gregory, daugh ter of Senator Lee S. Overman, for the office ef vice president general, whl-U office will be vacant next month by the retirement of Mrs. Lindsay patter son. On (notion of Mrs. J. P. Cald well, seconded by Mrs. J. 8. Myers, tie chapter enthusiastically endorsed Mrs. Gregory for the high position which, as one of North Carolina s most charming daughters, she can till with credit ito herself and the State which her distinguished father so ably represents. The paper of the afternoon was read by Mxb. H. L. Hunter. Her sub ject. "Colonel Davie and the Battle of Charlotte. " waa so attraotWely and tnetructlngly handled that the chapter requested the pleasure of having it published. At the close of the meeting MIjs Orr served dainty refreshments. Mrs. Lilian Holmesley Bott. who has been abroad, Is now in New York and -will arrive in Charlotte soon to visit friends and relatives. Mr. R. T. Ashcraft, Miss Besslo Ash craft and Miss Rena Lasslter, of Wadesboro, were Charlotte visitors yesterday, stopping at the Uuford. Miss Sadie Thomas was operated on yesterday morning for ap pendicitis at the Charlotte San atorium. She stood the operation well and was reeling very comfort ably yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Annie Dcw.w Hatley. of Hous ton. Tex.. Is the sruest of Mrs. J 1. Chambers, her sifter, on Tenth avenue. Mr. Cooper Is one of the mqst eloquent men attend ing the ttfg convention and those who will hear him this afternoon .are as sured of a treat.
