Not withstanding the general opinion here that two steamboat lines to Currituck cannot pay, It is understood that the movement, which was started here HeiVerar days' ago, to organlie-a stock company to operate a competitive steamboat line to points ln Currituck county is meeting with success. The capital stock proposed Is 130,000, of which It Is said JI 4.000 has been sub scribed and paid In. Fifty-one busi ness men and farmers are already represented ln the new organization. Also It is stated 3 75 farmers and busi ness mon have pledged themselves to give the line their patronage as soon as the line Is in operation. The stockholders ln this new com pany will meet here next Tuesday to tako steps to procure c charter and appoint a committee to purchase a steamboat. The main offices of the company will be located ln this city and as soon as a charter is received election of officers will follow. The points to be made by this new steamboat line are the same recently touched by the Banks' North Carolina Steamboat Line, which owing to the consolidation of the LeRoy lines and the Norfolk & South. -rn steamboat lines, was forc. d to discontinue. New Steamer Added to Fort Caswell's Equipment. Special to The Observer Wilmington. March 20. The steam er O W. liettie has arrived at Fort Caswell from the Fore River Ship building 1 ompany, of Quincy. Mass., and will be used in I he quartermas ter's ilepuitrnent of the I'nlted States army at that post. She Is 8 feet long, 26 feet wide and carries a crew of nine men. She will be used for "trail ing" the big (una out to sea at the fort, planting mines, placing sea tar jget. and the like. No. 317 North Fourth street, causing a loss of between 500 and $00 against which there was no In surance. A monkey and a parrot kept as pets In the store perished in the flames. The tire occurred at 4.30 a. m. and was discov ered by c'apt. W. H. Newell, Jr. as he was K"ing up to the Coast Line station to take out the Columbia train on its re?uUr schedule. The building is owned by the Sanjuel Bear estate and was dam aged to the extent of several hundred dollara.
