Mr. Barnett Speaks to Methodist Ba rs ca Class. Mr. E. E. Barnett. the energetic and successful secretary of the Uni versity of North Carolina Young Men's Christian Association, at Chap el Hill, delivered an 'nterestlng and model talk before the Baraca class of Tryon Street Methodist Sunday school yesterday afternoon. The at tendance was good and the subject was well covered In a surprisingly ehort time. The efficiency of Mr. Harnett's work at Chapel Hill is evi denced by the fact that under his leadership 350 students are engaged in Bible study classes. Officer Shoots After Fleeing Prisoner. Guesta at the Selwyn were arous ed early yesterday morning by a fusil lade of pistol ehots coming apparently from beneath their windows. It was nothing more than Officer McKnight, f the city police force, seeking to re capture a prisoner who had Jerked away from him, and who was seeking to escape. He said that much charity work was being done now by Individuals and churches, but some system was needed. ' Rev. TUlett made an elegant appeal In behalf of the movement Dr. William Allan told of some sad situations which have fallen under his observation during his residence here as a physician. He made a very effective plea. Rev. E. E. Bomar said that the object of the proposed organization was threefold: elimination. exDlotta- tlon and concentration. He elabo rated on these points. A message was brought to the meeting from Mr. C. A. Williams, who said he could not be present, but was greatly Interested In the work and would be a Bupporter of the organiza tion. Dr. I. W. Falson spoke for several minutes with decided animation em phasizing the need of a more thor ough cleansing of the homes of the city. He was unsparing upon those who allowed filth of any kind to col lect around their premises. Mr. J. B. Ivey made a splendid talk In keeping whth what had been pre viously spoken.
