Board of Scbool Commissioners lie rtdee Adversely on propoMal to Ke model Ballding' Oorner of Bre-rard and Ninth For a High School. By tne vote or 6 to 4 the board o school commissioners, in special mejt tng assembled last night, went on record against the remodeling which woold amount to the building of high scbool on the property of the board In the first ward, corner Bre vard and Ninth. The vote was taken on the report favorable to the project made by Chairman J. L. Sexton, of the committee on buildings and grounds, which had been directed by the board at Its meeting Tuesday night to secure plans and estimates Three architectural firms submitted plans. Thoso of one called for 4.150; those of another for 14,900 and those of the third for $5,800. That primary schools are too badly needed-Jn several places Beverevllle, Myers Park, North Charlotte and a negro school In the third ward for in stanceto make advisable the expen dlture of money for a high school building which was not an absolute necessity seemed to be the Idea w hich gave to the opponents of the measure me victory. Mr. j. mrsntnger sent a letter In which he took the position that the commissioners could not legally erect a building, as tha is the prerogative of the aid ermen. to the commissioners be long only the power to re pair. Since the aldermen had not ap propriated sufficient money, the subor dinate board was relieved of responsi bility. These were among his argu ments. As it chanced, however, as a re sult of the parliamentary status which came about, the letter was never read. There were among the members of the board some wlio warmly favored the building of the school and these were somewhat disappointed at what seemed like a turning about face. The body, as stated, had already given sanction to the Ifrea tit a way by Its previous action, but on reconsideration and the submission of estimates, some changed their minds. The- building planned was to contain eight rooms, four on the first floor and four on the second, 66 by 68 feet in dimensions. Present at the meeting were Com missioners T. T. Smith, who presided; J. I- Sexton. W. H. Belk. R. K. Blair, B. L. Kiziah, M. F. Trotter. O. U Dooley, D. L. Klstler, I C. Hernion, W. A. Neal. Wallace. Ivory Soap is not a 'time saver"; or a "la bor saver." EASTER CLOTHE Men are pretty nearly as -much interested in their clothes nowadays as women are; that is, men who want to "count" in this world. The careless man is rarely an impressive figure. It is the plain duty of every self-respecting man to look and act his best. Proper apparel helps much. e Washington Company Clothes are conceded, by people that know, to be the most fashionable and finest tailored ready-for-service garments that have as yet been produced. If you wear Washington Company Clothes on Easter Sunday your mind will be undisturbed by the fear that you are not well dressed. Long-Tate Clothing
