Pear of Premature Burial. Westminster Gazette. The fear of premature burial, which prompted the late Lord Burton to di rect by his will that his heart should be removed from his body, has caused many well-known men and women to order a surgical operation to be per formed upon their bodies. Martlneau left her doctor 10 to amputate her head, and Lady Bur ton directed that her heart should be pierced with a needle. The late Edmund Tates left instructions that bis jugular vein should be severed, with a provision that af ee of 20 guineas should be paid for the pur pose. Literary persons appear to have been particularly afraid of pre mature, burial. Bishop Berkeley. Lord Lytton, Hans Andersen, and Mlkle Collins all took measures to protect themselves from it. A dried pan contained an al kaloidal substance to about one. part In a thousand. It contained also a glucosaldal substance to the amount of not more than four yarts in the thousand.
