Alpril 2 The directors of the tminlng school for the colore"! ministry to be located somewhere tn North Carolina, have endorsed the rction of the merchant association securing a lte from Mr. Brodie L.. Puke and the school appears to he a certainty for Durham. There re strings to the recommen dation. The site offered by Mr. Duke la to be sold for $4,500 and is a 20 acre lot In Hajtt. the colored settle ment. Mr. Duke agrees to sell it at ceet and to give half the amount to the achooL The director have de clared that they will locate the build ings here If the colored people wilt lift the elts and start unencumbered. They have raised IJ.400 of the neces sary funds. This school Is to be fashioned after the Bble and training schools of North fleld nd Winona Lake, having Chautauqua features and national in Its soope. It is to he composed of three big buildlnrs to cost about $150,000 and will be endowed with a fund of $200,000. April 2 The Thom asvllle Picker Stick Company held a meeting a few days ago and derided to Increase the capital to double the present amount and double the out put of the plant. Mr. O. R. Cox was elected president; Mr A. H. Ragan. secretary and treasurer and Mr. P. R Mason, superintendent ana manager. The future of this plant is very bright. It Is one of the busiest plants In the town as well as one of the best pay ing. All the merchants of the town have made an agreement by which all places of business will be closed every evening at 7:30 o'clock, except Satur day nights from May 1 until Septem ber 1. This gives tha merchants shorter hours and makes the business less confuting. Mayor W. O. Burgln has Issued a call lor a mass meeting to be held In the opera house Friday night. April 10. at 8 o'clock for the purpose of naming a mayor and five commission ers to be voted on at the comTnz mun icipal election to be held Monday, May a. A building and loan asociation Is be ing organised here and the capital stock Is being subscribed to very lib--erally by al classes of people. Thom asvllle needs such an organisation.
