Too. i Official announcement ' Is made of ths programme for the celebration of ', the 10th of thi month, in honor of , the llth anniversary of the Meck )nhu Declaration of Independence. As will be indicated by a perusal of " Its details, the exhibit'ons and ex ' ercisea planned will be well worthy of the occasion and will push the af ' fair Into the front rank of its kind. The exhibitions and races by the fire ! companies, the United States cavalry , drill and other manoeuvres, the Char lotte Drum Corps drill in front of the " reviewing stand and the fine band ; concert, besides the carnival compa nies, will make the first day. the 18th, notable. The second, the lth. Gov ' ernors' day, will contain a number of -features which marked the first day besides many others. And as for the 20th itself, every minute Is crammed with something interesting, beginning with the arrival of the President of the United States at 10 o'clock. If the celebration of the 20th were to be held In Atlanta, that town would aay that the civilized world would look on breathless. That Is true to some extent In this case, since the President of a world power is to snake Charlotte 'his abiding place for a. day, but Charlotte ran afford to be conservative and merely call atten tion to a fact which is indisputable, that It will attract the attention of the United States. Journals far and wide have com mented on it. some in one spirit and me In another. The important thing Is that they have taken notice. Give eye and ear to the programme. It speaks for itself: MAT 18. The latter was one of a number of chil dren who came out of a yard to see the motor car pass. They boy, in company with the others, paused at the edge of the road. Finally when it was within a few feet of him he darted forward and was thrown under the automobile, which dragged him 15 or 2ft feet. When this was stopped the occupants ran back to the boy. They expected to find him dead, but he seems to have had a mi raculous escape. He sat up In tho road before he was carried away. Mr. Brown and Mr. W. M Long. who were In the car, drove it after a phy sician, securing Dr. Craven, who lives about four miles south of the scene of the accident. Conrty Commission ers Newell and McKee, who were al so passengers. In the meantime car ried the boy In a quilt for a hundred yards or so to the home of a colored family where he was attended to. Dr. Abernethy was also secured. Unless there la Internal injury, the physicians said, the boy Is not haffly hurt. Not a bone seems to have been broken. Mr. Brown had taken the commis sioners up to Cornelius to inspect the mad and on their return they de cided to cut across to the ford road. The trip was strictly one of business. This is be cause the bending of the col lar has a tendency to strain the linen at this point. Before we shape or fold a collar we thoroughly dampen this seam, softening the starch and allowing the collar to bend without cracking the linen, as it will do if the collar is bent over while stiff.
