V w..J rrtir Organlzaxlon of Charlotte Young Men Performs Before Thousands on Sat urday Kvnilng. The Charlotte Drum Corps, In full uniform, gave an interesting drill last night in the presence of several thou sand people on South Tryon street in front of the Presidential reviewing stand for which tickets were sold at 10 cents each. Quite a fair sum was realized for the benefit of the corps. The lights on the stand and on the arch at the corner of Tryon and Sec ond were turned on for the first time, the scene being one of rare magnifi cence. A large number of manoeuvers and feats of marching were found to be sewed up in the repertoire of the drummers and the crowd enjoyed the affair to the fullest. It reminded one of the semi-weekly public concerts of summertime in Winston-Salem, which give a sort of unity to the life there and add -measurably to the pleasures of existence. Under the leadership of Drum Ma jor J. O. Walker, the members sf the corps have practiced themselves Into a state of high efficiency. They per form almost as a unit and will add no little to the picturesqueness and live liness of this week's events. Grand Stand Absolutely SaTc Charlotte. N. C, May 1, 1909.
