A. will be represented at the annual convention of the Railroad Teung Men's Christian Association to be held at St. Louis. May 27 to 80, by the following delegates: Messrs. H. W. Purvis. A. O. Perry. H. L. Brown. C. I. Pauls and Secretary K. R. Hartsfleld. The delegation left last night an 1 will go by way of Atlanta and Hlrmlngharn. Messrs. T. E. Dabbs arid T. P. Wood have formed a co-part nerslilp to do a printing business and the new firm will be known as the Hamlet Printing and Supply Company. Temporary quarters have been fitted up over lha Hamlet Grocery Company. Work on the new athletic park is progressing nicely. The contract for clearing and claying the grounj has been let and the work began. It Is hoped that the ground will be ready for service In one more week. The declalmer's medal was won by Henry Callls. of Oxford. The alumni association met In the Opera House this afternoon and waa pre sided over by Dr. N. M. Kerebee. The opening prayer waa by Bishop Horner and the address of welcome by Oen. B. 8. Royster. who made a fine speech, full of wit. Dr. E. T. White Introduced the orator, Mr. Frank Winston, who made a splendid speech. He paid a glow Wig tribute to the feuader of Horner School and gave an Interesting sketch of his school boy days In Oxford. The new road, the Laurlnburg & Southern. which is being built in the county from John's Station to Laurnlburg, is being pushed, to completion. Almost all the road-bed has been built and the laying of the rails has begun. Only a few more weeks and trains will be gin o operate over It. This road will afford Atlantic Coast Line service to Laurlnburg; and add much to the growth Of the town. The road breaks through one of the good sections of Scotland, so good that the company has paid as much as $100 an acre for much of the right-of-way. To "Clean Cp" Laurinbarg. Steel! to Thi Observer. The board of com missioners are about to help matter They have appointed a street commit tee to take up the proposition of pav ing Main street. Business men are complaining because of the late ness of the hour at which they re ceive their mall because of the new schedules on the Seaboard. Since the change In the evening train from Charlotte It has been almost uniform ly late and the mail la not disturbed until the next morning. The train bringing the morning mail arrives al most two hours later now an! It has been delayed very often resulting In a marked ohange In the time of the dis tribution of the mails. Sheriff Martin sent two deputies with him. . After Fox had been taken from the cell eearch -was made and ten more saws discovered. Fox's attorneys have abandoned the appeal.
