Mr. V. N. Lueders, manager of King's Business College here, deliv ered a very excellent lecture yester day morning to the student body of the shorthand department, every word of which was spoken in a most graceful, eloquent and businesslike way, and was well received by those who are contemplating engaging In stenographic work. Throughout his whole address, which occupied not more than 'JO minutes' time, Mr.. Lueders called especial attention to these two main and Important facta: First, that King's Business College has a reputation which must be safe guarded, and that In order to do so students should not leave school for positions until thoroughly qualified, and in no case should the school be held responsible for students who make applications to business men without a recommendation from the manager of the school. Second. That In order to meet the demands of business men, a student should not only be master of short hand and typewriting, but should have a thorough knowledge of all the requirements Involved In amanuensis work, such as spelling, punctuation, Kngllsh, etc.. and that under no con dition will the school recommend a student who has not fully mastered all the details which go to make up a thorough amanuensis or thorough stenographer; and that he looked upon with disdain and contempt the Idea of pupils trying to get positions before thev were considered com petent by the faculty In charge, as he felt that It worked not only an In justice upon the business man and the student, but upon the college as well. Mr. Lueders is a Northerner, has bad about 20 years' experience in business college work, and, therefore, knows full well what he Is talking about, and what It takes to make an all-round business man.
