J" The picture to the rljht ia the coun terfeit article which the Oooper Mills, of England, have been foisting upon the trade, the counterfeit In ail de tails toeing almost perfect, the dog's head, the brand and the lettering being Identical There Is but one difference and that Is so flight that it is Indistinguishable unless pointed out. Instead of saying manufartured In the United States of America by .Hen rietta Mills, the fake has it manufac tured In England by the Cooper Mills. The counterfeit specimen of sheet ing was secured In Zanzibar, off the east coast of Africa, by the agent of one of the large New York commis sion houses selling the Royal Family brand of goods. It was sent to Mr. 8. B. Tanner, president and treasurer of the Henrietta Mills Company, who Immediately, through his agents, took the matter up with the British au thorities. Latimer, Jr, Trearer, ChM Textile Products 4 1 . J States and hence Mr. Tanner had lit tle trouble In having the Infringement stopped. It shows conclusively, how ever, to what extremities competing concerns will go In order to procure business. The two specimens of goods, the one genuine and the other coun terfeit have been on exhibition In the rooms of the Southern Manufacturers for the past several weeks and have exclteVl the liveliest Interest. Mr 1'anner states that he has had several Infringements of brands but never before such a flagrant one as this once before the Royal family brand was counterfeited but the ring's head was turned the' other way. There Is little estimating how much counterfeiting of American goods is going on in out-of-the-way places such as Zanzibar. Counterfeits are almost always of Inferior quality and this has hpen the cae with the goods fake made by the Cooper Mills which are not to he classed at all with the gen uine article. : after July sixth Wise, N'ortli Curolina.
