The new board of aldermen was sworn in last night to se;ve for the next two years and quite a large crowd was present to greet the new lxard and witness the ceremonies. Mr. Saw yer, commonly known among hln ad miring (?) political friends us "Boss Mac," has been a member of thf board of aldermen before and took his eat at the head of the table with hla usual ease and grace. Dr. L'land B. Williams was re-elected health of ficer; Walter L Cahoon. city attor ney, to succeed Col. George J. f!pen-e; J. Frank Weeks, street commissioner (re-elected); Richard C. The reduction of every oper ating expense possible: (2). The reduction of the tax rate: (3). The payment of the city's Indebtedness." June 9 Samuel Boggs. a well-known and prosperous farmer, was killed by lightning late yesterday while plowing in a field at hia home near Central. The mule h ! was working was also struck by the! holt and instantly killed. Mr. Boggs j was about 35 years old and is sur- ' vlved by his v.ife and four children. The recent heavy rains did more damage to crops than was at first known. The lands have been greatly washed wherever there is undulation at all. The Coast Line Railroad track between Scotland Neck and Halifax waa badly damaged Trains had to stop, transfer passen ger and return to Kinston and Wei don without crossing the trestle where the track waa out of order.
