In the death of Mr. Rufus Beam, of Fallston, the county i loses one of its best c tizens, a noble aud consecrated Christian, and one of its bravest and most years in charge of the Charlotte military academy. After the war G6". Hill was also for a time a member of the faculty of Davidson College. Mrs. Hill was a member of a large family. Oce of her sisters was the first wife of A. C. Avery, of Morganton; another married Gen. T. J. (Stonewall) Jackson and another Gen. Ruins Barringer. Mrs. Jackson, who lives in Char- loote, and two brothers, one a res ident of Lincoln county and anoth er , Dr. Morrison, living in Shelby, survive. Five children survive Mrs. Hill Prof. D. H Hill, of the A. and M. College at Raleigh; Dr. Hill, of California; Judge Hill, Chief Jastice of the Supreme Court of Arkansas; Mrs. Arnold and Miss Nannie Hill.
