Judge W. B. Council, who is
presiding over this term of court,
has made a hit with the law-abiding
citizens of this county, and
inferentiauy speaking-, he has
likewise made somewhat of a
'hit" with those appearing be
fore him as defedants on the
criminal docket He, somehow,
has the old-fashioned idea that
the penalties attached to the
criminal statutes should be rec
ognized in enforcing obedience to
the law as well as invoked as a
punishment for violation of same.
His charge to the grand jury,
which was one of the best ever
delivered in the county, prepared
in a measure lawyers, clients and
citizens generally for a dispensa
tion of even handed justice.
While at all times he gives a pa
tient and courteous hearing to
counsel in their pleas for clients
he never loses his grip upon him
self m inflicting such punishment
aa will have a deterrent effect
upon those who, with the expec
tation and hope of the too fre
quent, "judgement suspended,"
do not hesitate to violate the
laws. We realize the hardships
that these apparently harsh sen
tences inflict and we are sorry for
the unfortunates, but there ha3
long been" a growing suspicion
that our judges are too lenient
that too many go unwhipped of
justice, and we believe in the end
that the sterner measures of
Judge Council will go a long way
m decreasing crime and will
arouse more respect for the ma
jesty of the law.

Detective Story FrcnWatanga.
Boone Demo- rat.
There is quite an interesting
little detective story going the
rounds in Watauga just now In
short it is this: Some time since
a man by the name of Jones, in
very poor attire, came into the
western part of the county, and
after a short courtship was mar
ried to a Trivett woman on Rich
mountain. He sought work, and
applying to the McCain lumber
works in Johnson county, Tenn.,
he procured it. For days he
labored, in the meantime keeping
his eye on one of his co-workers
in the camp. At last, being con
vinced that he had the right man
spotted, he drew an ugly gun.
threw it on his man and in a
short while was traveling for
' parts unknown with one for
whom, he said, there was $2,000
reward. He disrobed himself of
: his "work clothes" before leav
ing, and donned a handsome suit
of black, bearing the insignia of
a detective. And they say his
bride of the mountain is bemoan
ing her lost love.
The Latest Explanation is That Microbes
Cause Baldness.
Professor Unna of Hamburg,
Germany, and Dr. Sabourand of
Paris, France, share the honor
of having discovered the hair
microbe.
Baldness is not caused through
a few weeks' work of these hair
microbes, but is the result of con
ditions brought about by their
presence. Baldness may not
occur until years after the mi
crobes began work, but it is
certain to come sooner or later.
The microbes cut off the blood
supply. They feed on the fatty
matter abqut the root of the hair,
through which the blood is ab
sorbed. Finallx,the fatty matter
is wholly consumed, the food
supply of the hair is gone and it
starves and finally dies.
Resorcin is one of . the most
effectivo germ destroyers; Beta
Napthol is both germicidal and
antiseptic; Pilocarpin, though not j
a dye, restores natural color to
hair when los3 of color was
cau.' ed by disease. These cura
tives properly mixed with alcohol
as a stimulant, perfect a remedy
unequaled for curing scalp and
hair troubles.
We want everyone who has
any scalp or hair trouble to try
Rexall "93" Hair Tonic, which
contains all these ingredients.
If it does not grow hair on your
bald head, stop your hair from
falling out; cure you of dandruff;
make your hair thick, silky,
luxuriant; if it does not give you
complete satisiaction in every
particular, return the empty
bottle to us, and we shall return
every penny you paid us for it,
without question or formality.
Of course, you understand that
when we say that Kexall )6
Hair Tonic will grow hair on bald
heads, we do not refer to cases
where the roots are entirely
dead, the pores of the scalp
closed, and the head has the
shiny appearance of a billiard
ball. In cases like this there is
no hope. In all other cases of
baldness Rexall "93" Hair Tonic
will positively grow hair, or cost
the user nothing. Two sizes,
50c. and $1.00. W. A. Leslie,
Morganton, N. C.

State Troops March Against Lawless
Indians, Half Breeds and Negroes.
Oklahoma City Dispatch, 28th.
Five companies of Oklahoma
militia marched to-night against
Crazy Snake's band of Creek
Indians, half-breeds and negroes,
entrenched in the Hickory Hills,
7 miles from Henryetta
A battle is regarded as inevit
able, as the heavily-armed troops
set out either to capture or exter
minate the murderous band,
which since Thursday has caused
the death of six men, the wound
ing of many others, and brought
about a condition of terror.
Leaving Henryetta at 3 o'clock
with seven miles to go, and en
cumbered with arms and equip

could not reach the Indians be
fore 7 o'clock.
Crazy Snake's men number
about 200, all armed with modern
rifles and plentifully supplied
with ammunition. They had pre
pared for two months for this
final stand against lawful authori
ty. They sent out word to-day
that they would fight to the
death.
