Solon, Va., to at tend the funeral of his sister-in-law, at the Hospital. He is 78 years of age and the other day he ran 100 yards in 2 minutes and walked a mile and one-fourth in 18 minutes. At the dance the other night he danc ed three sets, one reel and a break down at the amusement hall and was the first man back to his ward after the dance. Mrs. R. V. Alexander also has been confined at her home very sick for the past several days. Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Rusmisell, Jr., spent Sunday with his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin B. Kin caid, near the Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. N. A. McGhinnis at tended Sunday school at Church of AMHERST. Mr. John May was kicked by a mule Saturday. Several ribs were broken from which he is suffering very much. Mrs. E. H. Tilley left Sunday for Gastonia where she will spend awhile with her. daughter, Mrs. Howard R. inompson. Kincaid were Sun day afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kincaid near the Hospital. Mrs. R. H. Mull and son, Mr. Kelly Mull,' and Mrs. Roy Mull and Mrs. Edgar Dixon and daughter, Miss Pauline Dixon, spent Sunday with Mrs. John Cooper at the foot of Pi ney mountain. Mr. Walter Whisenant and Miss Mary Eva England and Miss Addilee Brittain motored to Calvin and spent the week-end with Miss Brittain. Mr. James Tolbert spent Sunday with his son and family, Mr. Will Mike Tolbert, near the Burke Tan nery. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tolbert's lit tle baby daughter, Evelyn, has been quite sick for the past several days, but is now improving. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Warlick and baby and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Willis, of Cleveland, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Dale and family near the Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Plato Hoyle and Mr. and Mrs. X. H. Cox of Morganton, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Houk and family. Miss Iris Houk returned home Sunday from a visit to relatives in Hickory. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Giles spent the week-end visiting her parents at Marion. Miss Essie Propst, of Connelly Springs, and Miss Mamie Crawley, of Morganton, are recent new nurses at the Hospital. The patients dance at the Hospital on Saturday night was largely at tended and much enjoyed. The nurses' and attendants' dance on Tuesday night of last week was also well attended and enjoyed. The chapel services at the Hospital on Sunday afternoon were conducted by Rev. F. A. Bower of the First Bantist church,. Morganton. The writer has attended several of the revival services at the First Baptist church in Morganton and heard Dr. W. A. Smith, of Charlotte, who is doing the preaching. All are much impressed' with his able and powerful and convincing discourses and doubtless great good will be the result of the meetings. ' The first quarterly conference was held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Oak Forest church for the present conference year. The new presiding elder Rev. Z. Paris, of the Morgan ton district, was present. A full board of stewards was also nresent and plans for the year adopted. Sun day afternoon at 3 o'clock the presid ing elder preached a powerful ser mon to this congregation. A large crowd was present to hear him and were much impressed with his first service. Mr. E. R. Clark, outside working rjarty attendant, and Mr. Jerome Duckworth, outside night watchman, have exchanged places for three months. Mr. Lonnie Digh and his mother, Mrs. John Digh. visited his grandpar ents at Lawndale and spent Saturday night with them. The play given at Table Rock schoolhouse Saturday night was a de cided success. It was a proof of the splendid work of the participants. The sum of $20.00 was realized for the fund to paint the building. Mr. J. A. McGimsey denies the right of Mr. Jacob Bean, of Worry, to hold the championship as a pumpkin-raiser. He has one that measures 5 feet 10 inches and weighs 68 pounds. Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Taylor re turned to Morganton Saturday after a few days visit to Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Harris. Mr. Chas. C. Wakefield and Miss Jessie Rhyne, of Knoxville, Tenn., were week-end visitors here. Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Barlow, Mr. and Mrs. T. Boone Craig and baby, of Lenoir, Route 3, were Sun day guests of Mr, and Mrs. F. M. Kin caid. Miss Pansy Kincaid accompa nied them home. Mr. Parks McGimsey now has charge of the Sunday school.
