Johnson) If you aro the kind of person who thinks the world' owes you a living and you have signed a 'paper to that effect, you should go over to' see Mrs. Mary K, Frye at her work making shuck doormats, and J am of the hon est opinion you will have a different outlook on life and go out and get you u Job. Mrs. Frye is past “throe score year.s and ten’’ which in itself is no handicap if you are able to get Do YOU suffer from GB3AAiFS nmmm TEiisssn on "CCRTAM DAYS” of the month? Also Croat stomachic tontet Try iti around, hut she has to do most of her work sitting. She has to depend on her daughter to bring the shucks to her. Once she gete them her nim ble fingers go to work and when the mat is 'finished she sells it for a ifan- cy price at the Woman’s Exchange In 'PInehurst. Her fame as a maker of these mats has gone as far as Con necticut and she has received and tilled orders from that state, in fact the demand is greater than she can supply. 'How does she make them? There’s no use In my tolling you that for you wouldn’t make one, there’s too much work involved. In all, Mrs. Frye made a total of 37 mats over a period of a year, which Is a lot of mats in anyone’s language, consider ing all the work to be done before it is complete. Frankly,' I think Mrs. Frye 5s a moist remarkable woman,, and some of us would do well to take lessons from her, for while her in firmity keeps her sitting most of the time, she certainly Is not silting on the "stool of d'o-nothlng’’ . . . The other day I met the young man I had been 'wanting to see over since J re ceived a letter from him while he was in Germany, and he Is everything I expected him to be. That’s a wonderful record for 'Mrs. Clarence Holder, don’t you think? . . . It’s bard (for us to realize, that Allene-MoLaan, respectable coloreld woman of this route, has passed on. When we saw her only a fow short weeks ago she was her usual Jolly self and seemed to be in perfect health. Certainly her .sudden death which occurred at her home on thle route last iSaturday night brings to our mind “Life (s uncertain, death is sure.” Yes, death comes to all of us whether It be in the morning or eve ning of life'. -She is survived by her husband, Lonzie 'McLean, and twelve children and her parents, W. I was'listening to a;boy reading a list of names the other |day when he came to one he could not pronounce even after we told him what'ft wa(9. (He gave up In disgust and said, “I’m glad they didn’t name my mother that for I could never tell anyone her name.” J have wondered more times than one why parents picked the name they dldi for their child. It couldn’t be that they dislike children so much, to hang such a name on them. No, of course not, tastes differ, we al] don’t see alike . . , Not seeing alike reminds me of the man who said he was glad every one could’ not see alike because if they did everyone would want his wife, To which a man listening re plied, "Yes, It, la a good thing we all can’t see alike because if everybody could see me nobody would want her.” It’s a pity some of you Jealous husbands (or vice versa) can't take a lesson from this man and realize that taateo differ and while you may think the one you married la the most beautiful person In the world they might not rate a second glance from anyone else.
