Gourlay introduc ed guests to the receiving line which was composed of; Mesdames Joe Cavlness, Joe Moss, Alex White, Ed .Moore; Misses Margaret Howell and Edith Ann Cavlness. .Mesdames Scott Bowers and A. W. Peede directed guests to the guest book, where Mesdames J. B. Moss and John Northam presided. Mes dames Sidney Howell and Ben Parker poured punch and were assisted in serving sandwiches, bridal cakes, nuts and mints by Misses Barbara Ann Howell, Ve Ve Cavlness and Rita Hunter. White dahlias were used in floral arrangements In the large living loom where bridal white predominat ed. The mantle and punch bowl were banked with Ivy and flanked on either side by white tapers providing soft Illumination for the artistic sot ting. Goodbyes were said by Mrs. Cavl- nesa Brown. A large nunber of guests enjoyed the occasion. WEDDING REHEARSAL FOLLOW- ED BY PARTY Immediately following the rehear sal of the Ashe-Hovrell wedding on Monday evening, the bridal couple and their attendants were honored at an informal reception by Mrs. Charles Loving at her homo. While dahlias and orysanthem- ums predominated In the floral ar rangements In the living room. In the dining room the table made unusually attfactlve, having as a centerpiece an exact replica of a garden wedding with miniature j bride and groom. The tiny branched ‘ candelabra with miniature tapers afforded the only Illumination for the dining room. Arrangements of varl-colored flowers and silver lace vine wore used to complete the de corations. Mesdames A. W. Peede, Joe Cavl ness and Miss Daphne Smith receiv ed In the dining room. Presiding on the porch were Mesdames Alex White and S. R. McKay. Bridal Ices, cakes, mints, nuts and punch were served to members of the wedding party. Mrs. Mack Thompson of HlUon Village Is visiting Mrs. Nolll Salmon at her home. Miss Hannah Martin of Sanford is visiting her sister, Mrs. Joel Layton, Jr. at her home, Mrs. W. L. Alston of Weldon visit ed her daughter. Miss Mabel Alston, Monday. Miss Alston spent last week In Weldon. Mrs. Carlos Lanier has returned home and Is getting along nicely af ter an operation at Highsmlth Hos pital. Robert Bruce Ray has returned homo after spending a week with friends in Columbus, Ohio. Mrs. Hiram Baggett Is still a pa tient in Highsmlth Hospital, Fayette ville. She has been there for the past month. A few friends and re latives accompanied them for the ceremony. The young couple . will make their home at Dunn, where Mr. Sills Is employed. Revival Services At Methodist Church We Thank You Rev. Forrest D. Hedden, pastor of the Dunn Methodist Church, is preaching in the Methodist Church in Lilllngton each night this week at 7:-30. (There will be services on Saturday night). BLACKMON Phone 204-2 Lillington Miss Margaret Elaine Howell, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Guy Howell of Lilllngton, became the bride of John Rainey Asbe, Jr., son of Dr. John Rainey Ashe and the late Mrs. John Ashe of Charlotte, in a formal ceremony on Tuesday even ing at 8:00 in the Lilllngton Presby terian church. Rev. T. A. Gulton, pastor of the bride officiated. Floral standards of white chrys anthemums against a background of palms and fern and branched can delabra of white cathedral candles formed a beautiful and effective set ting for the ceremony. ' Prior to the ceremony, Mrs. Cavl ness Brown, organist, arid Mr. B. P. Williams, soloist, rendered a program of appropriate music. The selections played by Mrs. Brown' included "As Calm As The Night,” “Ave Marla,” and “Llebestraum.” Mr. Williams sang “Because,” “I Love Thee,” and "All For You.” The traditional wed ding inarches completed .the musical program. The bride, who was given In mar riage by her father,’ wore a Ham burger original wedding gown of white slipper satin featuring a high neck line. The yoke of Imported marguisette was edged In a fold of self material and the long sleeves ended with points over the bands. From the fitted waist line flowed a foil skirt with 'bustle, falling into a long court train in the .back. Her four tiered "fingertip veil was at tached to a coronet of pearllzed orange blossoms. iShe carried a bou quet of stephanotls and orchids. Her only ornament was a string of pearls, gift of the groom. The bride had as her attendant her sister, Miss Barbara Ann Howell, maid of honor, who wore a dress of ice blue satin, with a fitted bodice and sweetheart neckline. The lull skirt extended to a semi train. She ; wore pink feather tips In 'her hair and carried an arm bouquet of pink pom pon chrysanthemums tied with pink satin ribbon. Bridesmaids were: Misses Mary Ann Ashe of Charlotte, sister of the groom, Edith Anne Cavlness and Clara Johnson of Lilllngton, and Kathryn Gaines of WlnetouiSalem. The4r dresses were of Ice blue satin and were identical to the maid of honor. Each wore blue feather tips In their hair and carried bouquets of yellow pom pons tied with yeljow satin ribbon. Mr. Ashe had as his best man his father. Dr. John Rainey Ashe, Sr., of Charlotte. Ushers were: Messrs. Parks King, Jr. and John Crist, Jr. of Charltrtte, Rhea Preston of Dur ham and Watkins Prior of Oxford. Mrs. Howell, mother of the bride, wore an evening gown of aqua crepe with sequin-trimmed bodice and long aqua gloves. Her corsage was of or chids. ' Mrs. Mabel Ashe Payne, aunt of the groom, was attired in a soft beige crepe with long pink gloves and wore a corsage of orchids. Mrs. Ashe is a member of one of Lillington's most prominent families and is well known in social ctroles throughout ihe State. iShe was gradu ated from Lillinton high school and later attended Womans College, of the University of North Carolina, QreenSborq. Prior to her marriage, she was a student In Duke TTniverstty School of Nursing. Since' the an nouncement of her engagement ahe has been extended many social courtesies. Mr. Aehe was gro^wted from Dar lington S.chool, Rome, Qa., He at tended the Citadel in Charleston, S. :i C. and u;as graduated from David son Coll^je, Davidson. He Is a mem ber of thi) Junior class at Duke Uni versity School of Medicine, and a In at least four instances stones have been used this season—presum ably to increase the weight of to bacco piles on the warehouse floor, according to C. D. Baucom, super intendent of the State Agriculture Department's Weights and Measures division. Although refusing to give the name of the warehouse or the town In which It is situated, Baucom as serted that a warehouse operator re ported finding rocks in four baskets. Baucom said the rocks varied in weight from six to 15 pounds each. He said no warrants have been drawn, pending other violations, add ing that he had' no definite informa tion as to who placed the stones in the baskets. Conviction of this weights viola tion carries a fine of 96,500, 30 days to a year in Jail, or both, according to Baucom. Those In charge of the Lilllngton School Library are' particularly grate ful to the local chapter of .\merican War Mothers for the gift of twenty books, alt of which have been contri buted in honor of|a son or sons who served in either World War I or II.
