Enlisted men and officers of the Army who have had no college train ing now have an opportunity to com pete for appointments in the Regular Army, according to information re leased by Headquarters Tblrd Army recently, Enlisted high school gradu ates may compete for admission to the United States Military Academy to fill vacancies allotted to enlisted men of the Regular Army for admis sion on July 1. 1948. Eligible enlist ed men selected for this competition are offered preparatory academic training in courses under the direc tion of the United States Military Academy. United States Military Aca demy preparatory training Is also offered qualified officers and war rant officers on active duty in the .\rmy. Navy, Marine and Coast Guard. For the reserve officer with no college training the Army offers a competitive tour of duty looking to an appointment in the Regular .Army. The former provision that an applicant must have had two years of college work In an accredited In stitution is broadened to provide that an applicant who Is a graduate of an accredited high school will be ac ceptable provided he makes a pass ing score in examinations that will be provided. Stuart, who enlisted in the Army in October. 1'9'46, at Fort iBragg, N. C., rocolvod his stateside basic training at Port Eustis, Va. He arrived in the Japanese Theater of Occupation In .Tamiary, 1947, and joined the 34th Infantry on the Island of Kyushu, southernmost and third largest of the Japanese home group. Contributing to the high morale of the men of the 34th Infantry Is an extensive recreation program Includ ing football, basketball, tennis, boat ing, roller skating, and horseback riding.
