The - Enterprise. issued bvrkv Friday afternoon By T 7 rT?T?TS- . publication oFnos: Enterprise Building Main St. 'PHONS NO 18. Knterol at the puat oBice at Uigh Point, N. C, for transmission I -ouh Ibe ufciils as second class matter. One thing, at least, stands to the credit pf Torn Reed he does nr.t knife the men who made his public life possible. Such a task is rt seived for John G. Carlisle. At lanta Constitution. Mr. Carlisle has been held up before the country by the free silver wii.g of his party as the meanest all. If he didn't strike back when the opportunity presented itself he could hardly be called a man. "Traditions have put us in party lines, and partisanship has devel oped an arrogance that assumes to dictate all policies, while the in dividual citizen has been robot d cf his will and made the slave of parly rule. An attempt to assert personal freedom and express pal none sincerity ol faith has been met by social ostracism, loss 01 business C4ste, and a flood of vile denunciatiou. By these method.'-, methods as cruel as the flames 01 the Inquisition, men have been driven to do the will of party. The price of freedom is death social, business and political death. It comes at as high price today as it did in the days oi Leonidas. TUs hope we have is in the fact that there are some men among us who will have it at any price, 'liny are the forerunners of a genuine kiugdom. To them freedom ai d dcalh ate better than slavery ai.d existence." Dr. J. C. Kilgo. --We notice that the We End Furniture Co., of Marlon, has been organized with a capital of $ 10,000, T. ;F., . Wienn audi other incor porators. - " r r We would like for y on to settle your suhacipttons t the Enterprise promptly when due. Pr. J. J. Cox left last niht for Baltimore, accompanied by his nu-ce. Miss turner. Mrs. 3. A. Clark has returned from the North ami invites all to examine tur new goods. Beautiful tugs at cost. The Bkst Yet Mr. Field Tecel ve a carload horses and mule esterday, th best he has had. ' HONOK ROLL. A TRIIUTE CF dttPtCI Four years ago, when we canu to High Point, . "a stranger in a strange land," one among the fi..-l to offer us the bund of lrieudsbip was Dr. L. I Bodenneimer, ami from that day until he was called to his rewind, we enjoyed and ap preciated bis friendship. Dr. Bodenheimer was a man ol striking individuality, full of quaint humor, yet blessed with more than ordinary sense. He cared as little for the opinion of the world as anyone we ever knew. When fuliy convinced ol the righteousness of any cause, either civil or religious, be took a decided stand, and there, to use bis own words, "he'd stay though the Heavens fall." Dr. Bodenheimer was a close student of the Bible, few being more so than be. In some of the talks we had with him, that came ' from his heart, we were enabled tu see the depth of his feelings. He knew why he trusted, and verily he cotiid say, "I know that my Redeemer liveth." Our hearts go out in sympathy to tlie loved ones who mourn his loss; our tears Sow with theirs, icr oh, we too know what it is "J'o long for t: e touch of a vanished hand. The sound of a voice that is s i.l." He spoke with loving praise cf the devolednes of his children during bis long illness, and these words must coiue back to them now and in some measure assuage tbttr deep grief in their great afflic tion. This is by no means iutenucd as a review ol his life work -let some more worthy pen than mine do that; this is but a tribute of re spect to his memory. With us there will ever hang 011 Memory's wall a picture of this rugged old man whom we knew and admired in the sunset of his life, and who honored us with his friendship. bervant of God, well done! Mill IUIMT Notwithstanding the fact that the town was very much interested and enthused over the waterworks victoiy and the celebration thereof about the time set for Miss Belle Kearney's lecture, the M.K. church was over half filled with those eager to hear this famous woman. And they were not disappointed. Miss Kearney's talk from begin ning to end was highly interesting . and instructive. Her theme was on the prevalent evils of the day and the attitude of nation, state, county and city to the same. She showed many inconsistencies of our eov ernment in dealing with the great questions that weigh so heavily upon toe nearls and minds many good people of the land Miaa Kearney's appeal to the young people was exceedingly touching . Like many of the leaden in reforms . ahe believes that th hope of the country is in teaching the young people the enormity of the evil which have been treated lightly by . those who should acknowledge the seriousness oi many of them and lend their influence to their correc tion. This was Miss Kearney's second visit to Htgn .Point and ah de lighted her hearers on both occa sions. Not only were her talks pleasing , but she did good. I)Ri r, Stokk Bargains In this age of bargains people are even expecting them in the drug stores. Have you ever stopped to think what drug store bargains mean? They mean impure drugs and medicines, substitution, and short weight and measure. Sup pose the druggist, in buying his chemicals, should buy where he cau get them cheapest, without regard to quality? What would be the result? Your doctor's prtscrip tion, instead of being beneficial to the patient, would prove injurious. Your physician doesn't want cheap Jrugs in his prescription.
