For this reason, and owing to the fact that we are fflied up with bank reports, much of our corres pondence has of necessity been left out. It is one of those cao't-be helped occurrences. Melson, formerly of this nlace but lately of Petersburg, Va., paid us a visit last Saturday. Mr. Melson brought /along with him a copy of the Hopewell Daily News, another evidence of the wonderful growth of "Powder Town." It is a real live paper, and the editor is working hard through bis columns to improve tbe civic conditions of tbe town. Tbe peauut market here has been flooded during the past two weeks, aud from the way in which they uour into town we would judge that a large crop has been made this year. Prices are hold ing up good, and buyers are eager aud active to buy all they can There is some spirited competition between these buyers, which, we interpret to be a good sign for the farmer who wants the best price. The streets are iined up every day with carts and wagons, and as fast as one procession moves on, auotb er comes up to take its place. The fact that tbe farmers have had ex cellent weather in which to pick their crop added to the good yield has made buying and selling more active than heretofore. Our New Advertiser*. Elizabeth Dunn, a little school girl, while returning home from school in Union last Monday came very near being the victim of a fatal accident. She was playing on tae sidewalk and attempted to cross the street, ahead of the mail carrier. She was knocked down and run over by the home and buggy. Those who witnessed the acci dent say it was a miracle the child did not get killed, other than be ing badly frighten and a few bruises, she was none the worse for her experience.
