' HORSEHIDE LOVERS CLAMORING AGAIN The crack of the ash against the horsehide and the plunk of the ball in the old mitt is desired once again by the local enthus iasts of the National Game. The cry has gone forth and the clan has been called. Much dope is being spilled about the prospects for putting AHOSKIEon the map from a baseball standpoint All we need is a good team; the fancy shirts and knickers can come later. The Sporting Editor of the HERALD is urged to urge the public to urge a baseball team for our town. Since the said Master of the Dope Sheet has had no work to do for a long time, he is willing to try his hand. ' The manifold advantages in a local team need not be called to your attention?they are appar ent. From the viewpoint of ad vertising our town, such an or ganization should command the sincere support of every pro gressive merchant and business man in A H O S K I E. The name and emblem of the team are all ready and fixed. The INDIANS with our Chamber of Commerce designed emblem will fit okeh. And with the wealth of material, the tribe should pros per and amass exceeding wealth in the won column of games played. Rumor has it that even a mascot is at hand and awaiting the call; by name, one James Samuel Vinson. A meeting is to be held Fri day evening for all who are in terested in the organization of a first class team. Time; seven o'clock so everybody will be there by eight o'clock. Place; the office of the Chamber of ' Commerce. If you are inter ested and want a team, come early and Join the fanning bee, which will be adjourned promptly at eight o'clock if there are pres ent ten men who want to get the kinks out of stiff arms and cav ort on the field for the honor and glory of our fair city. If there are enough present to insure the success of a team, a permanent organization will be effected. A manager will be chosen and the other essential offices will be fill ed. It may be that applications will be considered for the victims to serve as umpires. Come One. Come All, The big show is ready to begin if we can get enough to begin it. The Sporting Editor will grace the meeting with his presence. A farmer in Pitt County built a sweet potato house at the suggestion of the county agent two years 'ago. This spring he has sold 200 buehels of potatoes in the town of Ayden at' $1.25 per bushel and is selling about 200 bushels more for beedding at $1.50 per bushel. His neighbors who have potatoes to sell from the bank are letting theirs go at from fifty to seventy-five cents per bushel. RICHARD THEATER AHOSKIE, N. C.
