Sometime in the morning Dr. Whitson came into the office and we had a conversation in regard to the papers; I told him -what order the Judge "bad made; and we read one ortwo of the affidavits filed in the case, and sometime after, I think before I went to dinner I told him the writ of mandamus was gone, and I have since that time made diligent search for the same, and up "to this time I have been unable to find the same. I have written to his Honor Judge Gudger asking him to issue a, duplicate of the lost one. The foregoing is a true statement so i"?r as I recollect. Although two of our temporary booms broke under the stress of the hicrb, water of Monday night, yet ;our river crews overtook all of the 'escaped logs the next day. Part will be shipped back by railway to the mill and the remainder rafted to Knoxville. ' We were prepared as far as Chattanooga in case-ol just such an emergency; we know the? weakness of our temporary booms but could not strengthen themmore than we did, or put in our permanent booms, owing to the long low state of the water previous to last Monday's sud den rise.h Oar Norcross boom as far as completed is quite, safe and all its con tents and the bulk of our Spring cut of loss istiU above us on the river banks and in the woods.
