The best line of Chairs, and the most comfortable, are at McMullen's. .-Col. Shippeii, a prominent lawyer of Philadelphia, and father-in-law of onr townsman, Mr. W. W. West, with Mrs. Shippen, are visiting their relatives. Tobacco is selling, and : com manding good prices. Lei all "who owe us, and .upon whom we have waited "until tobacco was sold," kindlv remember us in this day of our Deed, and come in and help us. We dislike to ask a man personally. and hope all will respond, prompt- y, without lurtber appeal. Ex-United States Senator, J. P. Kin of Georgia, the oldest surviving ex-mehi-ber of the Senate, who has been spend ing his summer in Asheville, left this week, with 1113 family, for their home in Augusta. All go this winter to. Europe for an extended trip, and all carry with them the best wishes of. their "many 1 friends in this section. ' . Tobacco is coming -: somewl' t reely. A visit, to ,the AsKeyille ! warehouse yesterday morning seems to indicate that body is better than color. There will, -however, be a great improvement in-, the latter: for time does a great factor in the development of color. It would be wisdom on the part of sellers to hold back lor a month or more, to wait a development. Tobacco is bringing very satsfac lory prices at our warehouses now. Every planter we meet, who has sold, expresses satisfaction with the .-ales. . Asheville is net excelled, if equaled., any whero now. A large number of buyers are on the mar ket Since 1852 $378,000,000 has been laid out in rebuilding and embel ishing Paris. The new Town Hall cost about $60,000,000, and $40,000, 000 has been spent on the 4 parks the Bois de Boulogne, Bois de Vin cennes, Pares Monceaux and Mont souris. And Paris has far more than made her money back by the millions of people who have been cttracted to that magnificent city by the more than magnificent improve ments. A good hint to Asheville. Now, if our meat market held up through the year as it stands there would be no complaint. Cattle are fat because they are turned into the fields. In a little time they will be bitinsr at the roots of the cornstalks. A little later thev will be 'at 'the cornstacks themselves. Anything to nil up. But nliing up does notl make fat or even flesh j and half the year we get blue and tough beef which might characterize the wire grass pastures of West'Florida. But we can io better than that and ought to do it. i ; . Mr. J. M. AtkinV who was here in August in the introduction of farmers' fruit gatherer. ; since his visit has been in twenty, counties in the State and has been success ful in selling. His object was to sell territory, in which he has been emi nently successful ; for the idea sug gests itself to all who know the value of gathering fruit in perfection. He will be here at the -GraDd Central until 26th. of November to continue the sale of his rights. ' That was a most delightful enter tainment on Monday evening at the residence of Mr. - and Mrs.- WW, WesV being the anniversary of their tenth m arried,y ear, a,nd known as a tinlwedding; .ThTcompin r . .was large ana eiegani,. ana njoyea np only the novelty, but the elegance of the occasion.- I he elegance was in the brilliant array ot guests, the handsome costumes, and the ease and animation of conversation, lhe novelty was in the display" of -pres entg, all in tin ware. ; Isaiah speaks somewhere rather contemDtuously of tin : "They will purge thee of all thy drops and takeaway all thy tin." This rather lower classed metal on this occasion arose to new dignity and stood abreast of silver with its bright burnish, and the elegance of the iorms it was made to assume. There was nothing mean "about it, and the surprise of the visitors was very openly expressed. The iair and elegant bride of vteu. years was handsomely attired and a striking ornament was a chain made of - tin hanging around her neck,' and sup porting a handsome medalion. The entertainment was . accompanied with an elaborate supper in which good taste was accompanied with luxurious preparation of the richest viands. . ; -. , We are sure that the wishes of the guests were all extended to the ho6te that they may celebrate their golden wedding with, all the accom paniments of happiness which now eem to surround them.
