We are indebted to the Manufac turers Etcord Co., Baltimore, for a handsomely printed, handsomely bound volume of 404 pages under the above title. Who would have thought ten years ago that the South could have furnished mate- ralfor such a work? -Ihe South harrowed by the devastating hand of an armed enemy, impoveri-hed to the verge of squalor hopeless, prospectless, despised,- and dis trusted and feared. Yet the South to-day is richer" than it ever was, more energetic and enterpnzing than it ever " exDected to ." be, - with '."re sources it never dreamed it pos sessed, now the wonder of tlie : capi talist and the projector, amazed at the stupidity which bad closed nis eves in the oast. Resources it was not credited with, except as con Bisting in the great staples of cotton, nee, EUgar and tobacco. Attractions it was not believed possible to pre' Bent through the mists of malaria or amid the flash of the bowie knife or the sharp crack of the murderous ritleor pistol. Look on that picture and then on this, and in these pages learn what has been brought to light. It is not the new South, but the old bouth aroused to action, and made kn wn to the knowledge oi the world. Jast What Thev All Hon. D. D.
