An other heavy sale of fine tobacco to day. Our Warehouses were all crowded yesterday with tobacco, bright, golden leaves, which rapidly turned to gold for our planters. A promi nent tobacco seller yesterdav said common grades of tobacco were selling higher now than he ever knew them. The crop is being rap idly s?nt in, and indications, accor ding to the opinions of our best to bacco dealers that it will not amount to as much as was thought some time age. It is evidently shorter than was predicted it would be. A drive out to Victoriv yesi'ertiay showed as that this young daughter of Asheville is following bravely in the parents footsteps. It is destined to be one of the prettic.-t and most charming places near us. All who have ridfien to Connely's View will recall that Ions:, sh?ded and wind ing drive which follows the ridge from the Swannanca road to tlieford across the river. Houses, handsome dnd willi well adorned grounds, are springing up all alonj this drive; and just beyond Oakland Mi. A Garrett is now opening an avenue which will be extended to the river. Along this avenue lots 200 feet front and GOO deep have been laid off. and some of them have been sold to parties at $3,000. One of these, next to the hotel has been purcbas ed by Mr. Collins, of the Asheviiie Ice orks and Flouring mill, upon which he is about V elect a tine dwelling. Mr. A. Trump Of Kearneysvii.e. V. The spring term of the Superior t'omt of Henderson county begins Monday, February 13. . 7 , f V The Catholic convent at : Hkikory, lias been sold to the Ohio Synod of the Lu theran church. Dr. Queen leaves to-day to be absent some days, filling professional engage ments at various points on the MurjiSy line. Such weather as we are now 'having makes every one feel like Spring is com ing, and time for beginning new enter prises and pushing those we have is upon us. We are looking for very lively liincs hi Asheville as soon as S-pring opens. Mr. Reed, of the Asheville' Gas and Light Company, has returned from New York. Mr. Schofield, a large stockholder in the same company, spent a day in tins city, en route home from the South where he has been establishing othe r works. The limes savsthe Itev. J. B. Uoono has resigned the pastorate of the Hen dcrscnville Baptist church. The Bap tists have no church building in that place, and the congregation do not pro pose to call a pastor until a building is completed, which, it is hoped, wilf be done in the spriDg. Upwards of seventy thousand dolliis worth of Asheville city property hae Leer, sold within the past ten days, all to new comers, who will soon proceed to impiove. Some new industrial enter prises are also under consideration, which will involve soir.e thousands of dollars. We hope to be able to speak definitely of these in a few days. Yesterday was another mild and beautiful day. Our northern visit'rare surprised as well as delighted. One ol them, a resident of Colorado, but former ly of BostDii, called to get copies of a recent number of the Citizen calling attention to these climatic contrasts to send to a brother in Boston. The facts his own experience enable him to cor roborate; and he wishes his shivering friends to share in his enjoyments. Ir. Kitz-IIugh Tinney of Memphis died recently at that place from con sumption from which he had sullere 1 for a long time. Many friends here whose ciose acquaintance he made last winter, when, with his wife and sister, he was a guest of the Sannanoa hotel, will hear with real sorrow of his decease. His many valuable and amiahle trait endeared him to those who knew him and the friends he made were true and lasting ones. Hendersonvil 'e, according to the Tinus has had some sickness among its leading citizens. Mr. John li. Erwin, Dr. J. L. Egertjn and Mr. D. M. Yet the fame proportionate amount of sickness in Asheville would have raisetl a great hue and cry abroad. A. Good Wagox Home Industries. Mr. T. J. Carland, of Avery's Creek, in this county, drove up to our office door yesterday a road wagon equal in all respects, exter nally, to the Old Hickory or Stude bakers of distant make, and not a whit inferior in strength or dura bility to any. It is made in the same style with those named, vith the exception of the iron used, all is home work and home material. Mr Carland's shop is on the Jones' Gap road about t) miles south of Asheville. He employs but few hands, and does most c" the work himself. He can make a wa-gon com plete in about ten days, and has good demand for his woik. His success is sugceMive of more exte -sive work both for him and Others Nowhere ii the United Sialesiljs there more eligible location for wa; on, carriage ind buggy works .than here in Ashev'Ue or in Bcv.co'Sbc.
