Ti, MivVivillft American and the Louisville Courier-Journal both nlaim the credit of first attracting attention ol capitalists to the S' Uth. Store So. 15, Pation Avenue The American cites the substantial growth and prosperity of Nashville, Chattanooga and the other thriving towns and sections of Tenii"-sre, Northern Alabama and Georgia as an tviileiict. The American has nobly advocated the claims of its section, not with out truth and influence. Much ,8 due these papers, as others who hv had faith in our resources, and who never tired in publishing it to the world. The true cause, we be lieve to date from the showing made at the Centenial Exposition "at Philadelphia in 1870; where the people of the North and South, in fact eyery point of the compass, mingled tcgether and witnessed the magnificent displays of products and resources of the entire country The showing made there by the South in timbers, minerals and other products created an interest the world over never before realized. It was the immediate cause ot much foreign capital being invested here and the Northern and Western peo pie, as a mass, getting over the sec tional feeling engendered by the war, saw opportunity for profitable investments in a section supposed before only fitted for raising rice, sugar, cotton, rosin and negroes. Th Atlanta Cotton Exposition coming on as it did a little later, where a more elaborate and com plete disply was made of Southern resources, visited in large numbers K Northern and Western people, but confirmed the impressions made in Philadelobii. and was not only astonishing to those from abroad fVi Southern people themselves wondered they never knew, or at least realized, the capabilities of Vmv own section. The direct results were soon felt Home people awakened to the fact, that thy might not longer idly dream away the time allowed them bv a kind Providence if they would Vn ace with tne woria. nenew ed industry was everywhere seen, its results gratifying in the extreme.
