Laughran, of this C'ty, yesterday showed us a copy of the Norfolk (Va.) Advocate, contain ing a whole page advertisement of Jno. B. Laughran's great three story instalment house in that city. Jno. B. is a brother of Messrs. J. H. and Frank L.iughran, of this city, and is the pioneer installment merchant in the Southern States. By his plane a man can buy a suit of clothes, furnitur?, house-furnishing goods, or almost anything else he wants by paying one dollar per week until the entire amount has been paid. Such a house would do a big busi ness in Asheville, and we are sur prised that such an enterprise has not been established in this city be fore. There is money in it. Mr. Laughran is Master Workman ot the Norfo.k Assembly K. of L., and the Advocate saya : "He is a typi cal working man and a noble friend of the cause of labor. He has built himseif up and made a trade for himself that defies competition, because he makes it a practice to be just and fear not. He ia'affable ana courteous, and when any one goes to the ' Pioneer Instalment Temple" to buy they get the worth of their money, and the satisfaction of deal ing with a good man." The secret of Mr. Laugran's success lies, in a large measure, to the fact that ho believes in judicious advertising. No merchant who advertises safely and wisely has need to fear insolv ency and the sheriff. Laog has just received a nice assortment of Silk Umbrellas with gold and silver handles made ay "Lyon" the celebrated umbrella manufacturer of New York, prices low, they will be engraved free of charge. d3t Tbe Opticians, Profs.
