In the last campaign 825,000 was thrown- "away. It is said that $30,000 have been sent here. There is plenty ot money and the republicans propose to buy men and yc g with it. "The democrats need money for work in the State. The campaign has been conducted thus lar on a few hundred dollars and with no aid from the National Committee." This presents the status of the two parties in this Slate, and must be very suggestive to our people. It only behooves our friends to be on the alert. The republicans will spare no efforts to at least defeat some democratic candidates for Congress. Special endeayors will be made to defeat Mr. Johnston. Again, let our people beware. , FritchArd Bodies Ondger. From all we have heard of the joint canvass between Messrs. Pritch- ard and H. A. This be has.done. He failed to meet Mr. G. at his, Pritchard's, own appointments last week, both at Polk and Brevard, but leaves to fill appointments east of the mountains without letting Mr. Gudger know where they are to be' l ein. He sent Mr. u. word ne would leave tor these appointments, out, strange to say, failed to give him further lniormauon. JNor can Mr, Gudger find out where he is. Is this not strange, also. The truth is, Mr. Pritchard could not stand the pressure any longer. 'Mr Gudger's exposures of him aod the part? which Mr. P. represents were too much for him. Mr. G. has only left enthusiasm for democracy wherever he has spoken; Mr. P. has left his party friends "very tired" of him and the cause he so leebly repre sents when confronted by Mr. Gudger.
