An -Ex-Judge and an Ex-Solicitor Joins the Conference. Rev. James P. Mr. McTier was a student at Em cry and Henry college, Va., along with manv of our fellow- towns men,, who are delighted to see his jovial face once more. He is a prominent and leading lawyer, and one of the most eloquent and fascinatiug orators of the Old Dominion. He is quite a Mouth ful looking: widower, an dtegfrt and solid gentleman, is a son of Rev. John H. UcTier, and his many friends both in the Confer ence and out of it predict for hjm great success as a pulpit orator, and they will not be disappointed. Worth Working For. Linney, the renegade democrat, and now vindictive republican, said in his late speech at Sparta, that "if the democratic party were sueeetsful this time, it would be the end of the republican party forever in this State , ind nation." Mr. Linney et3 out inadvertently a most un welcome truth for his side, a most welcome one to the other. That the republican party, a now ' or ganized, should be so near its end is a happy consummation devout- v to be wished and worthy the hard work of every democrat to bring about. Jjtt them accom plish Mr. Linney s prophecy. Perhaps, when it comes to an end," as ne predicts it win, anotner anu abetter, will rise on its ruins. Such is to be expected, such is to be hoped for, because all parties need healthful antagonism. But we have had enough of the pres ent republican organization. .
